Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This building is worth a look inside just for its architecture. It’s an old general store and it seems to have survived the fires of the hotel next door
The exhibits are ok and give some of the history of the local wool industry plus some dinosaur stuff that probably doesn’t belong in this setting . I’ve seen better displays elsewhere but still worth a gold-coin look if you’re in town for a few days.

It is only $5.00 per adult entry to this Heritage listed and volunteer run Museum.
Located along the main strip through Winton, just a few doors down from the North Gregory Hotel.
Although the dinosaur memorabilia is a bit primitive, the many other displays including the history of farming, sheering, opals and mining- is good to see.
It actually has a bit of everything, so a nice couple of hours spent here.

A building that was once a department store and today shows us what shopping was like a hundred years ago. The shop counter, the large front window showcase, the shuttle for dockets and money, and goods, labels, posters from the time.
The building also doubles as a mini museum displaying historical, local equipment and a shearing shed.
There is also a replica of the dinosaur stampede event of Lark Quarry, when 93 million years ago a few large dinosaurs chased a herd of chicken sized dinosaurs and the footprints remain for us to see. This is good for people who cannot go out to Lark Quarry.
The building is a delight. It's wonderful that it has been preserved and presented for us to be transported back in time.

Entry to the museum is by gold coin donation and documents the history of the outback wool industry. The rest of this huge old store is a gift shop with heaps of treasures and momentos. The staff are all volunteers and happy to share information. Loved the CWA (Country Women's Association) teatowels for the lemonade scone recipe!

Run by volunteers, one side has local souvineers - opals, books, t shirts, timbercraft, sewing, jams, etc and for collectors they have bottles, horseshoes, etc.
The side you pay entry for has a mining display, old shop items, local history, dinosaurs and the sheep/shearing display was excellent. A really good display in a small area, great for those on a time limit or budget. I really enjoyed it and glad I went in.

Interesting museum cared for and staffed by locals. This is your chance to meet and talk to a Winton resident who cares about the town and can tell you how life in Winton really is.

As the local Council upgrades Elderslie Street this Classic old building will have a new outlook. Made it hard for us to get there but will be worth the pain. So lucky that this has survived intact and a great little stop to admire.

Definitely worth a look to see a life size replica of the 3 dinosaurs involved in the stampede, a solid history of the sheep industry, a little on opal mining and shopping at the turn of the last century, and posters on weeds and other qld plants. The other third of the shop is handicraft items for sale.

We were particularly taken by the Lamson equipment which may be recognised by of our older readers which invoked fond memories of retailing in days gone by.
Ann is a very helpful and informative volunteer behind the counter. There are boxes of old books for the collector and many other interesting nick-knacks.
