Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Located just 2km off the highway, accessed by a reasonably good unsealed track, the adjacent day use and campground areas sit above the gorge itself with its wonderful views.

There are a few short walks that can be undertaken to provide different outlooks over the gorge. Pit toilets and shelter/tables are provided.

We stayed overnight in our camper trailer with a “front row” site: the sunset was spectacular. Only two other parties there the night we stayed.

This little known sandstone gorge, sprinkled with caves, equals in beauty and spectacular panoramic views, any of the Australian National Parks which I have visited, including the Blue Mountains. It has not been spoilt by excessive tourism. The difficult to reach, convict flagged road up a steep incline, is stunning. Local knowledge and advice to reach this attraction is a must. The Theodore Information Centre was most helpful.

There are two ways to get into Isla; one is to travel to Flagstaff Hill (4WD required); the other is to go into the lookout. It's only 1.3 kms off the Leichhardt Highway and there are toilets at the site as well as picnic tables. You can also camp overnight here for a nominal fee though facilities are basic.
The vast majority of people will have a look and depart within 15 minutes. If you're a little adventurous and want to get some fascinating snaps, then I recommend you try and get up close and personal with the rock faces.
From the lookout you can't see the arches and half the caves. Also, you miss the stuff that is right beneath you.
Having said all that, you need a reasonable degree of fitness and a sense of adventure to get off the ridges, it's not for everyone. Personally, I found the rewards more than justified the exercise.

Isla Gorge National Park, a short drive off the Leichart Highway outside Theodore provides stunning views of deep gorges, distant hills and valley plains. The services are rustic (no drinking water, pit toilets), and the hiking is for the serious only. Despite this, the short trails near the campground are worth it for the views and vegetation.
Despite the season, take plenty of water and food, as there are none. Overnight camping is cheap.

Great place to stop and unwind after a long drive. A place to sit and watch the sunset with a friend and a glass of wine

Spent a night at the Isla Gorge National Park. Only one other caravan there at the time - peaceful and clean amenities. Bit windy at night, but no problems.

This was a lovely little stop on our journey south from Theodore. Beautiful views and a great spot for lunch and toilet stop. We didn't camp here, but there was plenty of room to do so. We also didn't attempt the walk, as the edges looked too scary for me, dropping away on both sides, but those more adventurous would love the track. Gorgeous outlook, (excuse the pun!) and only a short drive in from the main road.

A quick stop on the way through is a Lookout into the National Park / Gorge.
The track into the car park is a bit rough but view is amazing of the cliffs and gorges.
Recommend for a stop during your trip
