Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum is a real credit to the local volunteers who have a put together a very informative and comprehensive display of a wide range of items spread across a number of old homes and buildings. Our kids enjoyed it (even the teenagers!) while their grandparents loved seeing things they had grown up with. Definitely worth stopping by while in Stanthorpe- this museum should be supported.

Just fantastic. The most interesting and well presented historical collections I have seen anywhere in regional Australia.
Allow yourself at least two hours and be enthralled at this immerse and diverse collection of local and national history.
This is a very significant museum and deserves huge recognition.
Congratulations to the local historians for putting this in public view.

We decided to go and have a look, firstly the guy at the counter was extremely helpful, and interesting to talk with.
It was just like a walk down memory lane, with some exhibits I remember having in my grand parents house.
The exhibits are arranged in a very good way, and lots to see .
There is a very interesting history of Stanthorpe to be seen .
At $7:00 admission we thought it very good value for money.
As we got to the end, we chatted with the attendant, he was a wealth of knowledge.
And we didn’t realise we had gone passed the closing time. But the gentleman did not even mention it at all, and just chatted about the exhibits and Stanthorpe.
We would say go and have a look well worth it

This museum is much more than old tea sets, linen, kitchen utensils, war memorabilia and farming equipment. There's musical instruments, a section dedicated to medical equipment, an old fire engine and first hand stories about government programs supposedly designed to help early selectors.
The most interesting thing I found was the shed with all the 'home made' farming implements, including a tractor! Many locals were ingenious at recycling simple things like syrup and fruit cans along with sugar and flour bags.

Jam packed with interesting things without being overwhelming. Several different buildings to visit each with a different era to investigate, e.g. Shepherd's Hut from mid-1800s. Lovely volunteer at entrance told us even more stories! Will visit again when in the area. We make a point of visiting local museums

Volunteer on duty gave us a gruff welcome. Has his mind on other things. This place is one of the best little museums we’ve visited in all our travels! Clean, well laid out, lots of exhibits, well maintained bits & pieces, well signed & displayed. Huge range of Australiana especially handmade Knick knacks & tools, utensils. Well done!

What a gold mine. Do not miss this place snd leave a few hours there’s so much to see snd learn. Staff are volunteering and do a wonderful job. You can use your ticket to come back if you don’t get all the way around everything. So much hard work has gone into the museum. Truely can’t rate it highly enough.

Our visit was enjoyed by young and old. So much to see. I think I missed an entire building- how, because there is so much there. It was brilliant. Definitely a good one to put on your itinerary. Well done to the volunteers: they do a terrific job.

I was visiting this museum in 2015 and was treated in a disrespectful manner after paying my $7entry fee. An older man approached me without identifying himself and told me to get out as he and others at the Museum could refuse entry to people who they deemed not suitable for entry even though I was allowed entry with a 'Thank You' on the receipt minutes prior. This is one of the worst displays of 'country hospitality' I have seen. Be careful when and if you are there as you might be removed without reason.

Be very careful if you visit this museum. Under a very "folksy" attitude is danger.
(1.) Make sure you get a receipt for every purchase including entry. You do not receive a ticket for entry, but it is possible to obtain a receipt. The entry is currently $7, but I am aware of different entry prices for unexplainable reasons.
(2.) Don't donate anything to this museum. Under the current "management" the lack of paperwork in some instances has caused grief. There are some very strange practices in this respect. Many loan items and donated items have disappeared, but there is denial about this. There is even denial that items have been loaned yet there was a loan register in existence not so many years ago.
(3.) One person who has been present for the past 18 years has turned this little museum into a private business. The original vision and purpose has been lost with the presence of this person. Be very careful.
