Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In September 2021 my wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant one week stay in the Granite Belt region of Queensland staying in the delightful Fergies Hill Spa Cottage located in the Granite Ridge Winery at Ballandean, very near to the Queensland/New South Wales border on the Queensland side.

Our plan for this one week stay was to visit lots of Granite Belt wineries and enjoy the many tourist attractions in the area.

Ballandean is 20 kilometres south, south west of Stanthorpe (the main town in the Granite Belt) and is 240 kilometres south –west of Brisbane, about a 3 hour’s drive away.

On our first full day after we arrived at the Cottage, we took a drive into Stanthorpe to get some meat and grocery items to cook meals ourselves in the Cottage, which is fully self contained. Before doing our shopping we took a short 5 minute drive up to the Mount Marley Lookout from the town centre, where we were able to get some fabulous panoramic views of the town of Stanthorpe.

There is a fenced off area at the top of the summit with two large highly magnified binoculars provided, which were free of charge to let visitors pinpoint certain landmarks more easily. There were picnic tables with seating and visitors can enjoy a short walk around the summit, which follows a narrow concreted path through the trees. This walk is very scenic.

There were quite a number of visitors up on the summit when we visited, which demonstrated the Lookout’s popularity.

This is a must do for visitors to Stanthorpe to get a different perspective of this charming, enterprising town.

Before heading back to our accommodation, we decided to check out the Mount Marley Lookout. The lookout was nice and there were free binoculars at the top. These worked pretty well and Noel creeped on some backyard family BBQ because they had a cute dog. There is also a summit walk you can do up the top of the mountain and a couple of picnic tables if you want to have some food up here. I think it would be a great sunset spot.

When turning off the main road at the Woolies roundabout and heading up past Aldi and straight up under the rail bridge, its a short drive to get there. You follow the signs, turn off the main road and then have a short steep twisty incline which opens out to spacious parking area and a viewing area over the town of Stanthorpe.
It has a lovely view and as the sun was going setting, we had a lovely view with the suns rays piercing through the clouds, it was rather nice. It was also nice to find that the two static binoculars were free and both worked well and were not damaged.
Its worth an half hour to admire the view.
There are also walking and mountain biking tracks that lead off the look out area which are at various fitness and skill levels.

We drove up to Mount Marley to take look over the town of Stanthorpe and the surrounding area.
The views are great. There are also some seats and picnic tables. We found a walk which started from the car park. It was lovely and went round the hill to the Eastern side. An easy walk on a concrete path. We also found that there were a few other walks which came up the mountain from the base.
Would be a great spot to visit for sunset.

A short drive from the cbd is this gem overlooking the valley and ranges around Stanthorpe. Wheelchair accessible at the lookout and also the concrete pathway around the summit bringing you back to the car park. A bit steep on the way bay back though so be careful! Great views of the city.

Easy to find but a windy road up to get the view and no need to spend too much time up there but it is a good view

It was easy to reach the spot via car. It was fairly high; in which you can view the entire Stanthorpe from above! We went there around sunset and the view from above was spectacular. Best of all, there were even free use of binoculars at the top! Definitely a place to stop-by when visiting Stanthorpe ;)

While it was a little hard to find it was certainly worth the bit of extra time and energy put into finding it. Maybe the township could signpost it a little more prominently??
Great views of the surrounding countryside. There is limited space for picnics so on a nice warm day you would probably want to get there a bit early to secure yourself a spot. There is also an easy short walk to complete. We were up there for probably less than an hour but I did get some very nice photos.

Great views of Stanthorpe from the lookout Point. There is a direction compass with points of interest and two fixed telescopes that do not require money to use.
