About
Sarina Sugar Shed is a true paddock-to-plate food tourism experience that celebrates the rich history of sugar cane farming in the Mackay region. Visitors can enjoy a one-hour guided tour and learn how sugar cane is grown, farmed and processed. The tour takes you through the early harvesters, shows you how sugar cane is crushed on our replica sugar mill (during crushing season approx. June - Dec), and demonstrates how sugar cane juice is extracted. The tour includes tasting of sugar cane juice, plus tastings of our award-winning liqueurs (from our onsite boutique distillery), chutneys and sauces made in our onsite kitchen, homemade non-alcoholic ginger beer, and freshly-spun fairy floss. We also have a retail store loaded with our products and other gift ideas, and a café for light meals and beverages. Open Monday to Sunday from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, with scheduled tours at 9.30am, 11.00am, 12.30pm and 2.00pm. Note: we are closed Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such an interesting tour. An hour of learning about the extraction of sugar in a fun way. With tasting of things that are made from sugar. Including schnapps and candyfloss. Highly recommended.

We learnt so much in this one hour tour about the sugar industry particularly the processing that takes place at the Sarina mill. The information was very well presented backed up videos, “meeting” the different machines involved in the processing opportunities to see or taste the product at various stages in the processing.

Fantastic! We loved it so much. Answered all our questions regarding the cane fields and sugar industry. Even our 2yr old loved it. They gave us umbrellas for the sun as some of it is outside. Bonus the mill is right next door so got some great photos of that also. The tasting was great. Lovely sized group too. Was very interesting learning all about how sugar is made. The drive to Sarina was worth it for this tour and a photo with the Giant Toad in the centre of town. Thankyou staff

Thank you so much for the review Emma, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us! Our guides are definitely passionate about sharing their knowledge of the industry and I am glad all your questions were answered. Our tour allows our guests taste and feel the different steps involved with the sugar process, we try to make our tours an interactive and fun experience! Our backdrop with Plane creek mill is one of the reasons we are here, and its great we can replicate the process the mill does in our onsite working miniature mill. And the tastings is a highlight - thanks again and we are so glad you enjoyed your visit to Sarina.

This tour is very good value for money. It's very informative and finishes off in the tasting room for a generous amount of tastings. The tastings include spreads and relishes, liqueurs and home made ginger beer, plus made to order fairy floss. We opted to pay the extra for a platter of cheeses, meats, relishes and fruit which we shared for lunch after the tour. This was also very good value. Overall a great couple of hours.
