Californian Oil Rigger In Bronze

The "Rigger" is a life-sized statue of one of the two Californian oil riggers who came to Roma in 1923 to train the first oil riggers in Australia as Roma was a key to the early development of oil drilling. His name was John Machado and he became an Australian and remained in Roma until 1945 and died in Brisbane in 1974. The statue which is impressive ,sits outside the Information Centre and the 'Big rig"that tells the story of oil and gas in the region. Worth a look for its own sake even if you plan to go to the Big rig.
