Our day trip to Wallaroo was incredible! Meryl picked us up from our front gate in the morning, guided us in a new air conditioned bus for a 12 hour day to numerous sites, treating us to a picnic morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea catered by one of the local cafe’s. We had a small group so we were lucky enough to be able to ask all the questions in the world and have them answered promptly! Meryl from Boobook and the staff at Wallaroo Retreat were lovely. Although we didn’t get to stay at the retreat, we will definitely be booking in the coming 12 months for a getaway. The grounds were immaculate and each glamping tent was neat and tidy but still nice and open, surrounded by the 72,000 acre station. Would highly recommend Boobook for your next tour in and around Roma!

my intended destination Carnarvon Gorge was closed due to bushfires, so I decided to book the "Discover Carnarvon Ranges" day tour with Boobook. What an impressive experience this turned out to be: traversing this spectacular private property from riverbeds to rockwalls and gullies, all in great comfort of a purpose built 4WD vehicle. Meryl was a considerate driver and guide whose knowledge and love of this country is impressive. I have to mention the delicious food: morning tea and lunch prepared individually to order, and a cold glass of wine served at the last lookout!

Outstanding tour, very informative and excellent way to spend a day, could not fault any part and the catering was brilliant. Meryl and her crew go above and beyond, if you want a small tour to show you the hidden gems of the Carnarvon ranges do yourself a favour and book as soon as you can! I am sure the other tours offered, would be at the same high standard and will be booking myself on more experiences with Boobook

[Note for clarity: This particular one-day tour visited Wallaroo Station and Outback Retreat, a private property in the Carnarvon Ranges area. It did not include the Carnarvon Ranges National Park.]
Boobook's Meryl was our very capable driver, ecologist and guide. She provided a broad, respectful, and well-informed commentary.
After an introductory walk to rock overhangs and an Aboriginal axe factory around the Dawson River, we enjoyed a huge morning tea of coffee / tea / juice, fresh scones (with jam & cream) and fresh-cut fruit.
Each stop presented amazing sandstone columns and arches, a geological story, and extraordinary examples of Aboriginal rock art. It was a privilege to be there.
In among a forest of cycads, we had a generous serving of (pre-ordered) sandwiches. Views over the Arcadia Valley revealed the immensity of this landscape. The tour also showed Wallaroo as a working cattle property. Meryl has an in-depth knowledge of productive farming practices, that also aim to preserve and co-exist with native flora and fauna.
The tour exceeded my expectations. There are certainly less expensive day tours around, but this 11-hour journey was the best value I've seen. It was a day of beauty and learning and good company. Thanks, Boobook!

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful experience with us! We are thrilled to hear about your fantastic day with Meryl in the Carnarvon Ranges.
Meryl knows this area intimately and enjoys sharing her knowledge and insights. The sandstone formations, Aboriginal rock art, and cycad forest are spectacular, and we have to pinch ourselves that this is effectively our 'office'.
As a grazier, Meryl's knowledge of farming practices and her dedication to preserving the environment is balanced and insightful. We're so happy to hear your experience exceeded your expectations and that you found it valuable.
Thank you for choosing Boobook and for your kind words. We hope to welcome you back for more beauty, learning, and good company in the future!

We had a wonderful time on this whole day tour of the Wallaroo property. Fantastic examples of Aboriginal art that you would never be able to find otherwise, really interesting information about the history of farming in the area and current practices, lots of great insights into the flora and fauna, plus morning tea, lunch and a cheeky drink to finish. Highly recommend this experience to really understand and appreciate the land you are on.

This tour was a very pleasant day exploring interesting places in the State Forest Park. It was very informative and the guide was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. I would definitely take the opportunity to attend other tours like this one.

Not many wildflowers around, but Rose was able to find plenty for me to take photos. She was excellent at finding them and then explaining all about them.

Mother Nature can be unpredictable, and this year, we didn't see as many wildflowers as we hoped for. Despite the reduced numbers, we're delighted to hear that Rose, our resident botanist, found plenty of wildflowers for you to photograph. Rose's extensive knowledge shines through; we're thrilled you found her explanations informative. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us!

Thanks for your question.
Our Discover Carnarvon Ranges Day tour visits a 72,000 ha working cattle station situated within the southern end of the Carnarvon Range. BOOBOOK has exclusive access to the property and on the tour we see the Dawson River, several Aboriginal rock art sites and the beautiful Arcadia Valley lookout. We lunch in a lovely cycad-filled sandstone gorge and also provide morning tea and afternoon drinks/nibbles. Several short walks are included on the tour. These are not on formed tracks and do require walking up two slopes which are reasonably steep (over a short distance) and have some loose rock. Hiking poles can be provided to assist with stability if requested. The tour departs Roma at 0700 and returns at about 6.30 pm. Pick-ups are available from accommodation or other points subject to prior arrangement.
Other than that, we're happy to customise a tour for you to show you around Roma and the region.
I hope this answers your question. Feel free to give us a call on 07 4622 2646.
