- Walter C1 contributionExcellent fossil experienceThe dinosaur display is the best I’ve seen. More comprehensive than Age of Dinosaurs. Kevin, the curator, was most helpful and knowledgeable, especially on our morning fossils dig which was great. I recommend that dig to everyone. 2 hours and many lovely fossils to take home.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 June 2024
- Carol RSydney, Australia13 contributionsGreat museum. Do a fossil dig too. This museum has a great array of fossils. More than The Age of Dinosaurs in Winton. Huge fish skeletons and amazing creatures! We also went on a morning dig with Kevin, the curator. He’s funny, helpful and so knowledgeable! I was busy complaining that after 2 hours I had not found much and he said take away a bit more! That’s the good layer….and I get a beautiful shark tooth! Awesome!!!!Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 August 2024
- Joy R4 contributionsDinosaur lovers heaven!Booked a morning dig not knowing what to expect. Kevin the curator of the museum, took us out to the fossil dig site. There’s fossils sitting in the surface, but with instruction, you get down to the soft layers. We found fish jaw, squid, fossilised wood and lots of shells and fish scales, all about 100 million years old. A must do for anyone even remotely interested in palaeontology.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 August 2024
- SuperDuper CoachMitcham, Australia205 contributionsBest thing in Richmond or Hughenden [not that this is very difficult)Adult couple, took us about 2 hours to see everything in the museum. Fascinating, awash with real fossils including the Kronosaurus and nuermous other biggies. Worth the $40 you will have to pay (less for concession and children), I mean, you have come all this way for this, petrol has probably cost you a lot more! Recommended. Definitely the best thing to see in Richmond or Hughenden.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 September 2024

This "Korner" also doubled as the Information Centre and contained pamphlets/leaflets on the immediate surrounds and the broader region. The young ladies assisting behind the counter were efficient, polite and professional, but the range of postcards disappointing. However the dinosaur souvenirs and memorabilia, including books, were copious! The Kronosaur was a precurser "fish" but the entrance fee of approx. $50.00 was somewhat deterring. We'd just been to Winton's outstanding Dinosaur Discovery Museum and the Dinosaur Stampede Centre so decided to leave the Kronosaur to "the next time". Through the glass window to the entrance, however, the display room was very large and it appeared to be interactive, Definitely one for the kids!

We have been planning to do the 'Dinosaur' loop, Winton to Richmond for some time but continually have trouble booking accommodation at both at the same time?
Anyway on our way back from a trip to Undara Lava Tubes we booked a couple of nights at Hughenden so drove out to Richmond for a look see at Kronosaurus Korner.
Certainly this is worth the drive out form Hughenden or a stop if its on your way to someplace else.
I had booked online so arrived at what I thought was a scheduled tour time 08:30. This turned out to be their opening time so we were in when there were few other there.
As pointed out by others in their reviews - I would suggest, when you go in, watch the movie first. That way as you move around the cases and the displays they will make a lot more as you will know how, when and where the fossils were found. Puts it all into context.
Also, make sure you understand the map of Australia at that time as that will also help you understand how monster water life came to exist out there in the desert/outback.
A massive bonus - you do not have to trek around outside in the scorching heat and red dust to see fossils, you can do it in airconditioned comfort.

Kronosaurus Korner is a must-do visit if you are anywhere near Richmond. The display hall holds hundreds of mostly sea-based fossils including some substantial creatures. A near complete Kronosaurus is the centrepiece display.
We loved this place. While I can’t buy all the ancient age stuff that we’re constantly told, this was a fascinating look at the remains of many creatures of a bygone millennium that are now extinct. Such a valuable collection and mostly found locally.
Highly recommend this place!

What a great museum and excellent fossil collection. Once the Eromanga Sea covered this whole area and so there are so many great fish and marine fossils to see. The highlight is the almost complete bones/skeleton of a 15m Pliosaur. There are several rooms containing fossils so it is very easy to spend a couple of hours learning about these fascinating creatures. A must visit if doing the Dinosaur Trail. If you feel so inclined you can go and dig for fossils and keep what you find - as long as it isn't a significant discovery.

Very disappointing. Turned up with family group of 13 at lunchtime, planned trip to make sure we could see the dinosaurs with kids who were super excited.
Note on door that they were closed early. Nothing on website otherwise we would have turned up earlier.
Kids left in tears.

The Digging at Dawn Tour at Richmond,Queensland was an amazing experience. It was easier to chisel into the rock than I thought and was surprised how quickly we found interesting things. I would highly recommend doing this tour and can see how fossicking can become addictive. We found 90 million old shark teeth, fish scales and a fish jaw with the teeth entact. Our whole family loved the experience. The other bonus is you can keep your fossil discoveries unless it is a significant find and now our Richmond fossils are displayed in our lounge room for everyone to hear our story.

Spent a couple of hours here before heading out to the public fossil sites. Big and informative collection of local fossil discoveries and audio self tour to help bring it to life. Has a view of the real prep room but no one working in it when we visited. Kids and parents loved it. Nice little cafe too. This is a must visit.

Kronosauras Korner is an amazing museum. The exhibits are beautifully displayed and give examples of all the incredible fossils that have been found in Richmond. Staff are very helpful in identifying specimens found at the fossiling sites. There is also an excellent shop and cafe.
A visit to the museum is a must before visiting the fossiling sites.
Kevin is a fantastic guide for an all day trip to a private quarry or a short trip to the local site.
This is an experience not to be missed.

Incredible to say the least. The fossils on display are truly phenomenal. I’ve never seen such an impressive collection of real fossils…not just replicas like the Qld Museum. But, the amazing discoveries inside the Kronosaurus Korner are only part of the experience. Without a doubt, everyone absolutely needs to go out on a fossil dig (or two…or twenty!). My children and I had a truly remarkable and memorable time digging in 100 million year old sites to uncover fossils. Kevin, the museum curator and our dog expert, was nothing but brilliant. Patient, kind, extremely knowledgeable, helpful and well, every positive word you can think of, that’s Kevin! This guy was the cherry on top of an already incredible place. Kevvy, we just love you!!!
Honestly, KK was the best part of our dinosaur trail trip by far!

Amazing museum with so many fossils from sea dinosaurs. The introduction video at the start is stellar, really well made & it helps you picture the dinosaurs as they would have lived. As other reviews said, the dinosaurs here are completely different from the dinos at the Winton museums, so be sure & do both!

We found the Ammonite Inn motel was a good place to base our Richmond activities from. It also has a restaurant which serves up excellent meals. The managers were very friendly and helpful when we stayed there.
