Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just 30 mins away from Atherton township and 5 mins away from Ravenshoe. First wind farm built in Queensland. Brings you to somewhere in Europe with huge wind turbines and cattle underneath. worth a visit if you are in the area and have never seen a wind farm.
Tips.
1. The viewing area is facing the back of all turbines... so better to drive further down Glendinning Road and pull aside to capture some better photos of these turbines.
2. Hold your cap tight and bring a jacket with you, its really windy even on a sunny day.
3.Signs all around the parking area saying poisonous snakes around so be careful.
4. Parking area can accommodate caravans and buses as well.

We came on a calm day, so there weren't much movements from the windmills. Pretty country side scenery though. There was an info board that educates people on electricity generation from wind.

We visited the Wind Farm when there was slight drizzle and that added to the atmosphere. Hardly heard the turbos turning, and lovely view from the hill where they are of the surrounding areas. Great views. Recommend visit.

This is worth a stop if you’re passing although the turbines date from 1998 so not like the modern ones. Interesting info at the viewing area.

I was happy to see that these were in QLD providing power to 3,500 homes. Standing at 160 metres high, with a blade length of 90m.
Yes they are big steal structures but I find them interesting, Handy parking area at the side of the road at the top of the hill and half way down the hill also. From memory there are 20 of them at this location. Others in the distance.

We came upon these rather suddenly and were surprised by these incredible Windmills. Having only seen them once before in Alberta Canada, the massive Turbines are surprisingly quiet.
Just a stones throw from the road it really is worth stopping off to see these incredible Windmills.

We stumbled across this beautiful look out. Very relaxing and calm. Something different that you don’t see everyday. Worth a drive out to.

This looked like an interesting stop, but I arrived to a very foggy and windy morning, and could barely see these monoliths. No trouble hearing them however.

Turn left just before Ravenshoe on the drive from Atherton and you’ll be at the the Windy Hill wind farm viewing area. You’ll be in awe well before this though and I challenge you to keep your eyes on the road when driving as the wind turbines will grab your attention and pull your focus.
There are 20 turbines in total (try and count them!) and together they create enough electricity to power approximately 3500 homes. This was the first wind farm of its kind in Queensland so is semi-iconic. One of the turbines recently caught fire but I believe it is now back up and running.

A great stop to hear the wooshing of the windfarm. Been there for many years but never fails to hold one in awe.
