About
A hidden treasure trove of one of the most diverse collections of local history. Toys, military items, kitchenware, and locomotives from the now defunct Moreton Central Sugar Mill are among the many interesting exhibits for you to view. Special displays are also regularly rotating in addition to the wonderful permanent exhibits.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I must say, this is the best country museum I have ever visited. The extensive well laid out and maintained site with fabulous restored exhibits are phenomenal. Located in the heart of Nambour, it is a great interactive family experience of history and engineering. A must while in Nambour located on the north-west fringes of the Sunshine Coast. Put aside at least 1 hour, you will need it.

We were holidaying in Mooloolaba and decided to take a bus trip to visit Nambour. The highlight of our visit was the Nambour & District Historical museum. What a gem! Not to be missed. The $5.00 entry fee was so worth it! There is so much to see that is beautifully organised into thematic rooms - kitchen, hospital, schoolroom, fire brigade, war memorial, matchstick models of ships and London bridge, children’s room, wedding dresses, and downstairs the amazing steam engines and tools on display. There was also an informative video explaining the history of the sugar cane industry and steam engines used for the cane transportation. The staff at the museum are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We can highly recommend a visit!

This museum is surprising. A lot to see. Favourite part of our experience was the interaction with the local volunteers and the official fluffy greeting dog. The enthusiasm was catching and who doesn't like to be greeted by a fur baby. Items on display have been thoughtfully presented, gathered into different rooms in the old school headmaster's house and restored and presented out the back undercover in the outdoor area. This museum is not only an historical representation of life in Nambour and surrounds, it is also a glimpse of Australian life. All schools in the area of this museum should schedule class outings to visit and see life from the past.

Thankfully this museum and others like it are keeping historical pieces for the younger generation to see how life was in earlier years. Many displays tugged at my heart strings, and brought back memories from my childhood. A special thankyou to the volunteers for keeping this museum functioning.

Last Saturday, we drove up from Brisbane to Nambour, were we visited the museum and absolutely loved the experience. Something for everyone to enjoy. Also took my young grandkids, 6 & 3 years. They loved the steam engines, plus the farming equipment and were fasinated by, in their words " all the old stuff". So much to see. The displays are very well presented, each in a themed room of this large historic house. Highly recommend a visit.

One of the best regional museums we've visited. Set in Nambour's oldest building you will find a wide array of wonderfully diverse items reflecting the rich history of the area. Beautifully presented & with very welcoming & knowledgeable staff, & only a $5 entry fee. We will definitely return as one visit is not enough to take it all in. Highly recommended.

The perfect collection of local memorabilia. Immaculately preserved, for a few dollars a head you can be absorbed for hours. Trace relatives, friends or family. See the old school, hospital, mill, kitchen, house or just about any part of life.

We visited this museum on Thurs. 10th. Oct 2019. The museum is very close to town, and covers all of its history, with various themed rooms, and a short but excellent vidio on the suger mill that has now been demolished. Various locomotives that were used to ferry the sugar cane to the mill are on display, as well as many other items of interest.
The museum opens on Thurs through to Sun. from !pm. till 4pm.
