I had a great one-day cleanup of Julattern-Carbine-Mt Lewis birds that I was missing after three trips to the area on my own. We photographed essentially all of my targets efficiently. Additionally, Doug is very pleasant and interesting conversationalist, and reasonably priced. If I'd had time to book another day(s) with him, I would have done so.

Thanks for the review Keenbirdphotog - glad I could get your targets for you! Its great taking photographers on tour because I love a challenge and I also get a chance to point my camera at a few things. All the best with your processing - regards Doug H

The two days of guided birdwatching with Doug last week are vying for top place of mind-blowing and fabulous experiences in my life. (I never thought I'd say that after a trip to Italy...) Doug led my partner and me to 114 different species of birds near the Daintree area, and we had a very full look at most of these. OMG, the colours! And now I have so much more understanding of bird behaviour too. My partner has much more birdwatching experience than me, but Doug was very patient with my beginning level. One could not ask for a better or more knowledgeable guide, for beginning or highly experienced birdwatchers.

Had a great day out with Doug. Over 60 species counted with 14 'lifers' Couldn't have asked for much more! (Except maybe for a better camera!)

Doug is a great bird finder, bird spotter and bird whisperer and excellent guide. Knows the area and knows his birds.

Highly recommended.

Doug is a great guide and I had a fantastic day birding with him. I lived in tropical Queensland many years ago and was already pretty familiar with the bird fauna, so my day was focused on a few birds that I missed the first time around. Doug is very knowledgeable and tracked them all down for me, including my favorite for the day: Golden Bowerbird! We also had a Fernwren singing in the open about 2m from us...so cool!

Doug knows the area, knows his, birds, and is also a really affable and fun person to spend a day in the field with.

Hi Kurt A Many thanks for your review. Mt Lewis really did put on a show for us didn't it! I went up again yesterday and managed to get the Victoria's Riflebird on his display perch and there must have been at least 10 Fernwrens calling along the track (breeding season!) It was great guiding you in the area and I am happy that you enjoyed your day.

I had a fabulous day birding with Doug. We found 91 birds which I would never have done on my own and certainly could not have identified. My favorite is hard to pick but I think the pair of Papuan Frogmouths were pretty special. Can’t wait to come back

Hi Deborah Thanks for choosing Birdwatching Tropical Australia for your tour. My day was just as fabulous showing you what can be found on my patch. Just for the record - my favourite bird was the Black-necked Stork.

A brilliant days birding with Doug yesterday on a still and sunny day. A very professional and knowledgeable guide. His ability to identify birds by their call was impressive as was his use of a bird call app to lure the birds towards us. (Hope you recovered your speaker Doug!) He identified 87 species many we hadn't seen before and would certainly not have seen without his expert help.
Would thoroughly recommend him.

Hi Dorothy S Thanks for your review! Yes I did recover my speaker. I was there at 6am and was treated to the most wonderful dawn chorus. I posted a photo of the Fig-Parrot we saw to your FaceBook messages for you. I hope you enjoy it. Calling the birds in with the bird app is great if used with restraint (and never around breeding birds!) Kind Regards Doug H

My husband and I spent a very enjoyable birdwatching day with Doug. The weather was extremely wet but Doug ensured that we managed to see 61 different species of birds and also provided umbrellas. We visited various sites, industrial, mangroves, seashore, graveyards and botanical gardens. The morning coffee and biscuits was very much appreciated and Doug was very easy to be with and our day was very memorable.

Northern Queensland is a fantastic place for birders and bird photographers but if you haven't spent some time in the region you need an experienced guide. Doug is one of the best birding guides and a very pleasant companion. We spent a day with him on Mt Lewis and some neighboring areas in Julatten and photographed more than 50 species, including 6 of the 9 local endemics. Doug has an amazing ability to find the birds and was very helpful in advising us how to get good photos. He also made some useful recommendations on how to spend the next day when we were exploring the area on our own.

Hi John W. Thanks for your excellent review. Hope the photos turned out well and that you found some good birds the following day. (I am sure you meant to say you photographed 6 of the 9 wet tropics endemic birds we saw as there are 12 local endemics :) )

Doug was a great birder, photographer and gentleman during our day of birding. His humor and persistance as he monitored advancing rain resulted in a 60+ species day despite the weather. Armed with umbrellas, he provided we spotted , so many great birds. So fun and such a lovely man.

Spent 2 days out with Doug last week and we clocked up 127 species of which 37 were lifers. He found birds even when he wasnt looking so I forgave him for forgetting the milk on day 1. We got 9 of the endemics and some other cripplers to boot. The last bird of the trip was a Noisy Pitta (which I thought I had, but didn't so another lifer) which came in to a couple of meters away, that'll be memorable for a very long time. Doug is astonishingly good at finding birds, but he's also a thoroughly nice bloke who felt like a mate after just 2 days. I'll be back in FNQ next year so will be doing another day (please remember the milk).

Thanks Pommynige for your great review! It was great chasing some of your target birds even without milk in the tea! Next time we will have milk - I promise! I look forward to your next visit.
