Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow what a way to see the Family Islands.
Best 5 hours of our trip to Mission.
Well worth the outlay for 4 people, didn’t even need a boat licence.
Perfect day started early in the morning buzzed out to Wheeler island in the 20 HP with 4 of us on board, boat handled well with an all up weight of about 230 kg.
Explored Wheeler then buzzed over to Bedarra island and pulled into a secluded beach for lunch and a swim.
Tried to book again just to repeat the experience but the word is out and there was nothing available.
Book early to avoid disappointment.
Thanks Simon we will be back.

Gobsmacking and great value!
As a group of four adults we hired one of Simons 40hp boats to explore the islands off Mission Beach for a half day. The online enquiry system worked well with Simon replying quickly. After a safety and navigation briefing we set off and cruised around Bedarra Island before travelling to Dunk Island which was perfect for swimming and sunbaking. We then cruised over to Portaboi Island and snorkelled around the island seeing beautiful coral and an abundance of fish species. If you are looking for an affordable and memorable day, exploring Islands, swimming and sunbaking without the crowds, then contact Simon and hopefully you will have an awesome day like we did.

We hired Simon's beach eBikes for half a day and had so much fun. Smiled the whole time! Simon was very helpful and gave us a lot of his time to make sure everything went really well. Riding the full length of Mission Beach (on the beach, paths and tracks) on these powerful eBikes is a fantastic experience. Highly recommended.

The perfect boat to hire for non-boating enthusiasts!! So easy to use, very spacious, shade sail, and enough horse power to get around to all the islands in very good time. Simon was great, giving us an easy and detailed run down of what to check out while out on the water, where to snorkel and where to fish. Would definitely hire again!

We hired one of Simon's 40hp boats for the day and from start to finish had a great time. Simon was incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure we had the necessary local information to boat carefully but with the flexibility to do essentially as we pleased. We cruised to the outer Family Islands, mooring at one (Bowden) for a little while for a swim and wander. Then a quick stop at the beautiful beach on Bedarra and then finally a much longer stop on Dunk to use their BBQs for our lunch. Whilst the facilities in Dunk were great, the beaches on the other islands were much nicer than the main beach at Dunk (at low tide - would have been nicer at high tide) and if the ride is on your side (rising) when at the outer islands, plan to spend more time there and less at Dunk, maybe packing a picnic lunch. We may have liked Dunk more if we'd also walked to Muggy Muggy Beach which in hindsight we should have done. All up, we can't recommend Simon and his boat hire more highly - his service was excellent and we had an awesome day out!

Our family of four (two adults and two young kids) hired a boat for the afternoon and had the best day ever! Simon gave us great advice, maps and really clear instructions to ensure our trip was a success. We visited Dunk Island (Coonanglebah) which was stunning then the tiny Purtaboi Island which was completely extraordinary because we had the island all to ourselves. We did a little snorkelling and saw a bit of live coral and fish. Totally gorgeous. Simon gave us all the info we needed for a safe journey out and back. Really special. Highly recommend.

Well worth the effort to hire a boat. The day was picture perfect with Simon being very informative of where to go and not to go. Short instruction on using the boat was explained simply, also very accommodating to our needs.

We pre booked a boat to visit the islands, with weather conditions unsure. Spoke to Simon the day before who said to meet at 8am and we will decide then. At 8am the weather was beautiful, so headed over with intentions to hire the boat. Simon wasn't there and wouldn't answer the phone. Eventual communication ended in Simon admitted he'd been drinking the night before so wasn't feeling great, and that the boat is out of action as he decided to start replacing the seats since we'd cancelled (which we most definitely had not). The only option he gave was to pay a lot more for two smaller boats as he was not willing to match the price of the 40HP boat we'd requested - which we didn't do as we felt that was hugely unreasonable since it was his error not ours. Later investigation we realised he has had quite a few bad reviews. I would highly recommend choosing to use the Mission Beach Water Taxi service instead.

Would highly recommend hiring a boat from Mission Beach Boat Hire. Simon is so helpful and knowledgable, gives you all the info you need about the best fishing spots, the best places to go cruising around the islands, the Spit Bar on Dunk Island on a Sunday and all the safety info you need for a great day on the water. Simon even loaned us a couple of his fishing rods to take out. Sadly on this overcast day we didn't catch any size fish that I want to speak of, but those big ones are out there and we will be back to catch the elusive ones off that little island just off Dunk. Love it and thanks Simon for all your help in getting us out on the water - it was a great experience.

Definitely see Simon at Mission Beach Boat Hire for an awesome day over on the islands!!
And we stayed at Mission Reef Resort and couldn’t recommend it highly enough! There were fancier places to stay but we rely heavily on reviews and that’s how we chose Mission Reef.
