The Miles Historical Village Museum and Visitor Information Centre is open from 8.30 am until 4.30 pm every day except Christmas Day. The facility is located on the eastern entrance to Miles on the Warrego Highway. The Museum features over 34 original and replica buildings set in a streetscape reminiscent of a town from the late 1800s. Each building houses their own special collection. The facility also contains a War Museum containing photographs, stories, militaria from the Light Horse in WW1 through to the Vietnam War. The Norman Donpon Lapidary display houses a remarkable collection of fossil woods, ferns, fine agates, crystals and minerals from around the world. Each year thousands of visitors are impressed by the Historical Village Museum, it's collections and displays. An experience not to be missed!

This is an historical village that is extraordinary in its detail and breadth. It is a huge collection set in original old buildings from the surrounding area and xhock full of memorabilia. There is also a mix of modern with an interactive media display on the Great Artesian Basin in an air-conditioned theatre. Entry fee also allows multiple visits over a number of days for the one fee. You may need it! A must see in Miles.

Pet friendly!! We were so pleased to be able to share this experience together since we could both enter the museum, along with our dog. The staff were friendly and cheerful and the exhibits were very well maintained and interesting. There were audio visual exhibits as well as a great many vehicles, wagons and even a train engine to clamber over. Entry is via the Miles Visitor Information Centre who share their staff and we had a very relaxing time.

This museum is a "must see". Actually, I would recommend several visits, as there's just so much to see, none of it should be rushed. The staff are very helpful and the museum is superbly curated. The lapidary display alone, is well worth the price of admission. However, the same can be said for the shell house. The War Museum is excellent - and, there's just so much else to see. It's a great experience and not to be missed.

Wonderful village to look around, so many exhibits, well laid out, easy to get around & see it all. Could easily spend the morning there if you are a history buff. Exhibits are separate, eg the war museum so you could spend more time in the areas that you are interested in. Lapidary House is huge just on its own. Well worth the visit, they offer visits over 2 days if you want to take a break & return the next day. Could use a cafe or coffee cart there for a breather in between exhibits.

This is a good historical village with around 34 buildings (shops, bank, pub, chemist, school, church, hospital, garage, slab hut, station etc) fully kitted out for the relevant historical period with lots of artefacts to view or explore as others have mentioned. Less common inclusions were an extensive geology section, a large shell collection, and a military section. The newer artisan basin display is carefully objective but thought provoking. Given we aren't interested in shells or rocks, we spent just under 3 hours here. For me, the shop and post office resonated the most as the manual telephone exchange was the exact one I operated in my teens at my parents PO store and the goods on the shelves in the general store were all too familiar! Well worth a visit.

We popped in here en route to Dalby. We were soo impressed. It is so well set out. All the items were put in the place / building location where you would find them so have each item context. Clean. Exceptional. Must see it.

Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy this beauty!! It is an excellent collection of personal memorabillia, buildings, cars. machinery, photos etc etc. It is amazingly well preserved and is a credit to the volunteers who run and organise such a large display.
It also includes a lapidary showroom, a local war memorial and a small museum depicting the Artesian Basin and it's importance to not only the area but Australia as a whole.
A real gem and worth more than one visit!

The museum is mainly an historical village with a few special displays. We were not particularly interested in the village itself, which we had visited previously. We came to seem the lapidary display, which is outstanding. On the way to that display we stopped off to see the display of shells. It is remarkable. Thousands of shell in perfect condition, all named and well organised. You don’t need to know anything about shells of rocks to appreciate the beauty of the two displays.

What a very lucky find. There so much to see and learn in this place lots of rich history about Australia and what we use to do and eat and what we use to do on the land. Easy to get around if you in a wheelchair or if you got a pram there is stairs though to get in lots of the building that’s the only problem. You need good hour and half too two hours to see every building and to read things that around the place but well worth the look around very friendly staff to talk too and to help you out as well. It was worth a detour to see this place if you traveling through miles.

Hi Michaela, great to hear that you came across our "hidden gem" historical village. Lovely to know how much you enjoyed learning about the history of the Australian country life. We hope you managed to get to experience the majority of the exhibits. We do appreciate that the stairs may be a slight issue for some however we are working on improving handrails around these buildings. Thank you for your review.
