Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awesome place! A short stroll of just 15 minutes to reach a swimming spot under the waterfall! That's wonderful ! Then 10 minutes further up, a great viewpoint! The walk is a little slippery because it is on large rocks but if you are careful it is not dangerous!

Wow, what a gorgeous spot. I could have spend hours here.
The walk got a little scary in parts as it's prime snake territory, but absolutely worth the walk.

Plenty of beautiful spots to have a swim. (be wary of currents in some spots) Little falls, big falls. Follow the blue arrows over boulders to the top lookout. Definitely worth it. I didn't even bother going to the bottom pools due to the extremely thin pathways that lead you off the main pathway.

Public toilets at the car park area bottom which is at the base of the walk. There is a fair few stairs to the lookout and uncovered most of the walk so early morning is advised if just viewing the falls.

Lovely short walk in to a wonderful water fall. At the car park 2 steps away from the creek and then walk up the short track to the water fall. Drive in is dirt but not to ruff. Would visit again if we were up this way.

The signs were ominous two burnt out car on the dusty but scenic route were signs of things to come on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Out of the car with family in tow and reached the bottom of falls and greeted by loud music being played by louder local teens or backpackers, smoking a rather fragrant blend of leaf. Moved on further down nice quiet spot, unfortunately discovered around six to seven males partaking of a bong. Decided my young family had seen enough and whist getting changed was buzzed by a very expensive drone from up above. If they caught a sight of my large rear end that would be sweet revenge on these stoners on the falls

This is not one of the better known waterfalls in the Atherton Tablelands. It is very close to Mareeba, 12km off the main road. The road is unsuitable for caravans. The last 8km of the road is a dirt road, sometimes rutted. You would consider the drive very carefully if your car is precious.
It is definitely a journey into the Australian bush!
From the carpark it is a 1.9km round trip walk to the lookout. There are no seats or significant shelter along the track. Remember to take your water bottle.
The waterfalls are quite pretty, even now when things are very dry.
The nicest thing to is to cool off in the creek after the walk. It's cool to get in, but so refreshing! If you planned ahead, it would be a lovely place to have a picnic & relax for a while. There are a few picnic tables there. Camping not permitted.

Emerald falls is an amazing area to have a fresh water swim near a flowing waterfall. Whilst we were there we were completely alone for about an hour before anyone else came along and it was extremely relaxing with amazing scenery.

It is recommended you have at least an suv car or at least be a very experienced driver on dirt roads. For about 9km you drive along a slightly windy dirt road - not recommended for tourists who are not equipped to these driving conditions - it is also an sos area with no phone signal so make sure you have a tank full of petrol in case.

Overall and amazing experience and one of my favourites of the trip!

Although the falls are fairly scenic, be aware that access is via a corrugated gravel road, the quite rough and challenging 1.9km return track winds away from the creek through some fairly dry and uninteresting countryside, and that probably the most scenic part is the creek near the carpark!

Beautiful out of the way waterfall which is so worth the bumpy trip over the dirt roads. There’s a hike which takes you to the base of the waterfall or the very top for a gorgeous view. There are about 4 or 5 flights of stairs and the hike takes about 45 mins with a rest at the top for photos. There’s a beautiful array of colours to admire along the hike as the waterfall pours out over beautiful boulders full of different colours and then there’s the enormous black volcanic rocks along the hike as well as the backdrop of the green trees. A very pleasant spot with plenty of spots to take a dip without the worth of any crocs or stingers.

Rushing water over granite boulders, steep cliffs, deep pools for cooling off after the medium hike. What's not to love?

A short trip out of Mareeba, along a washboard dirt track (nothing or economy rental couldn't handle), we were very glad to have made the journey to these falls and swim spots. Even when dry, some rocks are like ice, so tread carefully.
