Excellent display of early activities in the Mareeba area
Aug. 2021
The museum has an excellent display about the development and demise of the tobacco industry around Mareeba. It explains the reason for building Lake Tinaroo and how the water was used to irrigate the tobacco crops. Now invaluable as a water supply for all types of agriculture. Another attraction in the museum is one of the early local houses which has been relocated and renovated at the site. The master bedroom furniture was all made from timber from the one tree.
It is worth spending a couple of hours looking through all the displays.
One of the best museums we have visited.

Excellent information centre, historical display and coffee shop
Jul. 2021
The information centre in Mareeba is also a heritage museum and coffee shop combined. Excellent large display of memorabilia and historically interesting facts and plenty of advice and help from the volunteer staff. Overall a great stop.

Great little museum with extremely enthusiastic staff.

Very interesting array of historical and heritage machinery, farming equipment, dioramas and an old train and carriage. Sounds like a weird mix but somehow it works.
Hear the food was good but didn’t partake.
Volunteers very knowledgeable and helpful.

Mareeba Heritage Museum
Sep. 2020 • Couples
Mareeba is such a lovely town and this heritage museum makes it with it’s quirky ways of delivering history to the community.

The cafe inside has amazing food and we would definitely stop here again.

Good local museum
Apr. 2021
The museum was full of very interesting exhibits very well arranged and maintained. The exhibit about the history of the previously very important but now largely defunct tobacco industry was particularly interesting. The cafe provided a large undercover area and a good menu but unfortunately the coffee was very ordinary.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are super glad that you enjoyed your visit particularly the Tobacco Exhibit which is the largest in Australia and recognized as nationally significant. We apologize for the coffee and will pass this feedback on to the Coffee House. Travel safely and we hope to see you in the future.

Hi, we are very sorry that you experienced this at our Centre. Our volunteers are usually very enthusiastic and friendly as such we would very much like to understand what happened and the date that it happened so that we are able to speak with volunteers rostered on that day. Please email the General Manager directly on visit@mareebaheritagecentre.com.au.

The museum was awesome, lots to look at, lots of info....however, the woman at the information centre may need to rethink her choice of career, if you don't like tourists, you probably shouldn't work in this field, she was quite short spoken...aka rude.
