Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came for lunch around 11:30-12:00 we weren’t greeted for a few minutes and when we were, our booking wasn’t already set. The staff seemed as though they didn’t know what they were doing and nothing was cleared from our table at all even though staff came up multiple times. All of the food was unenjoyable and unflavoursome other than the burger. the chicken tuscan pasta tasted as though i made it myself from home as the only flavour i could taste was cream. There was no alcoholic drink options other than beer and wine. i at least expected spirits of some sort but no. just over all unenjoyable

Must only have closed in the last few months as lots of people recommended it, but when we got there it was permanently closed. The little cafe beside it was lovely though.

I come here today with my parents. We drove 100km for this winery today. The man behind the counter explained it wasn’t a winery anymore as of 2 years ago, and no wine tastings were available. Only beer tasting available. So I’m unsure why it says “Maleny Mountain Wines” because this is completely false.
Since travelling so far we decided to stay for the beer tasting for $10ea. I didn’t like the beer, my dad knows alot about beer and thinks it was cloudy and had not been filtered. Also the people walking in expected a winery and turned around and walked back out. If you are looking for a “winery” or wine tastings, I would not recommend this place!

There were a group of us for morning Tea, booked well in advance. The service was slow, doing complicated coffees before tea and then bringing supposedly freshly baked scones, jam and cream. The scone were so not fresh, the cream out of a can. If you can't do a basic recipe right then don't bother. Will not be going there again, not just me but we all thought the same. We also thought it was expensive compared to other places in the area.

High quality wines and ports. Tasting is $5 per head for 5 samples but this is taken off the purchase price if you buy anything. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. You are able to sit with friends and enjoy a lazy afternoon, enjoying the wines.

We were a large group, and all of our requests were met by the staff who could not have been more friendly or informative. Wine tasting was a very pleasant experience and all tastes were catered for. It was nice to be told from our arrival, that beer was available for those not wanting to do the wine tasting, and other aspects of the place explained. All our questions were answered and explanations given regardless of the query. A lovely view outside and towards the back of the facility. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Very relaxed and no complaints from our group.

After reading some fabulous reviews, we visited and were immediately impressed with the outlook and appeal of the "wine barrel" appearance. Walking inside, the decor was inviting. The lack of service however was appalling. We were asked to move away from where we were seated because "these people are actually buying something". We ended up walking out and will not return.

Hi MelsyT4
Thank you for taking the time in writing your review of The Big Barrel. It is very surprising that any member of our team would ask you to move due to others buying, however we do have only one Eftpos terminal at the bar and this may have been the reason you would have been asked to move to allow another customer space to pay. Should this have come across as rude or appalling then I sincerely apologise. We have a great team and they all know and are usually above exceptional customer service.
We hope you will be able to visit again and hope the rest of your visit to our lovely local area was awesome.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in. Whilst there was a group on a tour already there and a couple of other small groups of people, we were attended to straight away. The knowledge of the product was great and we were given a good down of the new brewery addition plus what was coming in the future.

Just another pub. It is not a must be place. We happen to travel by. Good view of the valley from the parking lot. Nice craft beer. Had some cheese and crackers.

Is the name of this listing going to be changed? It is highly misleading. Since it does not do wines just beer tasting.
Written 5 June 2018
Hi James M and thank you for your question.
The listing is appropriate as we still offer our Maleny Mountain Wine range for sale and we also offer tastes of our different products should our customers wish to purchase any, or have a glass of wine. With the expansion of the brewery at the Big Barrel and craft beer production and sales becoming more substantial, we have decreased the amount of wines and therefore it is not cost effective for us to offer full 'wine tasting'. Our customers are more than welcome to try any of the wines that we offer for sale. I hope this answers your question.
Regards
Sharon@TheBigBarrel
