About
Welcome to the Qantas Founders Museum. We are an independent not-for-profit community organization and registered charity, operating since 1996, to commemorate the ethos and preserve the material heritage of the founders and early operations of Qantas Airways Ltd.
Go behind the scenes on this guided Airpark tour with local Longreach storytellers taking you back to Qantas’s founding in 1920, through interpretive displays, interactive exhibits, replica aircraft and impressive collection of genuine artifacts. Be mesmerised when you climb aboard the inside of the four iconic aircraft located under the 8000m2 airpark roof, feel like a rock star touring the Boeing 707 – a private jet! Upgrade to First Class tour to walk on a 747 Wing and join the Luminescent Longreach Night experience light and sound show. Come along and visit Longreach, home for Australia’s most iconic airline known as ‘the spirit of Australia’ Qantas; right where it all began.

- ChrisTaylerDarwinNTDarwin, Australia613 contributionsWing walkQantas wing walk longreach We attended an organised tour which was very interesting. Drew was the tour guide and was knowledgeable and had a few jokes that made it fun. We booked the additional tour of the wing walk. The group for that was for only 6 people and includes the museum. It was a busy time so we were pleased we booked as a lot of people we met couldn't get a tour as it was booked out. We had breakfast pre tour very good and again staff were good.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 July 2023
- TraceyC62Burpengary, Australia155 contributionsExcellent day out.We did the premium economy tour and found it good value for money. Allow plenty of time to see the displays throughout the museum, between 2 to 4 hours. You can do the museum before and after your booked airpark tour, which we did.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 July 2023
- Robert LBrisbane, Australia262 contributionsHistory of Flight in AustraliaBasic tour is in large groups and sometimes you struggle to hear the information. A walktrough in 3 different planes, it is a step back through the history of passenger flight. We did the wing walk tour, which was great. Only 5 people, and consists of going up into the tower, sitting in the cockpit of the 747 and a walk out onto the wing of the 747. Well worth the extra dollarsVisited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 August 2023
- BobToowoomba, Australia11 contributionsVisiting the QANTAS site at LongreachThe founders museum was an interesting basic experience and not really aimed as as a family highlight and any amazement detracted from the exorbitant admission prices. The initial $33 included a walk around aircraft exhibits within two rooms, however, Tourists expect to walk amongst the aircraft that made the Australian Airline one of the best in the world and this attracted an additional cost which elevated tickets to in excess of $137 per adult. A disappointing experience given this airline is our National Carrier.Thank you for your review, we are always looking for ways to make the museum more affordable and will take your feedback forward. Amazing piece of history.
We did all the tours available and loved every moment. The museum, the Light show and the Wingwalk were all memorable and time well spent. Thanks to Sarah and John for their informative tours.

The Qantas museum experience is outstanding, whether for aviation enthusiasts or simply for people interested in various dimensions of Australia's development. Our guide, John, was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable, able to communicate information interestingly and in a positive manner. There are diverse displays and memorabilia and a great cafe as well. Though opening hours are shorter in summer, the museum is still open every day. Just look at their website. Overall, a great experience.

This museum in Western Queensland gives am excellent insight into the pioneering spirit that made Qantas a much loved Australian company.
Started by a couple of blokes at a pub.
I am not a plane buff but I thoroughly enjoyed this trip.
Our guide Hamish was really excellent and answered all of our questions.
If you have kids I would totally recommend this.

We went to the Qantas luminescent show. Was advised as per our itinerary the show begins at 6.30pm and to arrive 15 minutes early. That's what we did. We stood around while the host arrived at 6.30pm and completed his setup then let in what little people who'd done the right thing and arrived early. Then proceeded to hold up the show for all the dawdling late comers. So all in all we sat around for 45 minutes waiting (which is twice as long as the show) before it finally began at 7pm. If people can't show up on time, maybe show a little respect for the people who did and start the show without them. Very disappointing.

Thank you for your review, we are very sorry to hear of your experience.
In September our Light Show does start at 7pm and we do need to wait until that time to ensure no one misses the show. We apologise for any miscommunication regarding the starting time.

Hey Robert thanks for the question. We do not offer discount rates to Qantas Club or Frequent Flyer members as we are not owned by Qantas. We do offer discounts for groups, aged pension card holders, students, children and families. We hope to see you at the Qantas Founders Museum soon! Safe travels

Yes it is. As mentioned above, Longreach is a small town and easy to navigate. Our Boeing 747 is also pretty easy to see especially if you are coming from the East. Otherwise you can follow the signs to the airport/ Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame or Qantas Founders Museum - we are all in the same director. If you are still unsure, just ask for directions at your hotel/ motel.
