About
Welcome to the Qantas Founders Museum. We are an independent not-for-profit community organization and registered charity, operating since 1996, to commemorate the ethos and preserve the material heritage of the founders and early operations of Qantas Airways Ltd. Characters of the early Qantas days, their pioneering spirit and the impact the airline had for all Australians, is brought to life through life size exhibits, historical artefacts and interactive displays including the National Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar. Visitors enjoy informative tours of the Museum's aircraft including the Boeing 707, Boeing 747, DC3 and new Super Constellation aircraft. Visitors can also enjoy the Museum's new Luminescent Longreach night experience. Visitors can also treat themselves to a coffee or a meal in McGinness’s Restaurant and purchase a souvenir from the Founders Store.

This was somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for years and wasn’t disappointed. We did the Boeing 747 wing walk which was amazing..our guide was very knowledgeable and knew the working of the aircraft intimately. We had access to areas nit normally seen by the public, some space were quite tight so wouldn’t recommend if you’re claustrophobic.

This too is a must when visiting Longreach. Staff are very passionate about the centre and their treasures as well as very knowledgable. We did the Air Park Tour and went back for the light show, both absolutely brilliant.

This was a once in a lifetime visit for us but unfortunately we struggled to understand our tour guide. He has fantastic knowledge but with the noise of aircraft and difficulty understanding what was said we missed most of the interesting info he was giving us. Perhaps headphones or a microphone would help. Our friends were in a different tour group and had no problems.

A must see. Fantastic exhibition & well worth the journey to come & see it. The history & stories not only of pre QANTAS era but also of Longreach & surrounding areas was valuable insight into early Australian life & ingenuity of the hardy people who lived in the area.

Not to be missed activity. Must look through the planes in the air park and see the difference from the first qantas plane up until the jumbo. The planes have been stripped back so you can see the black boxes and the wiring and cables which operate the plane. Can look below the cabin to see where the luggage goes and where the engineers access to fix a problem. The museum and hangar give so much knowledge on who started qantas and how the started with 2 planes on a mail run to become one of the biggest airlines in the world

Visited Qantas Founders museum today.
Really good exhibit and tour.
Much more interesting than I thought it would be. How the founders started the airline was amazing and the changes in aviation since. Flying to on Super Constellation in 1950’s to London took 4 days from Sydney. Stopping Darwin, Singapore, Calcutta, Karachi, Cairo, Rome, London and cost the todays equivalent of $26000 pp.

Hey Robert thanks for the question. We do not offer discount rates to Qantas Club or Frequent Flyer members as we are not owned by Qantas. We do offer discounts for groups, aged pension card holders, students, children and families. We hope to see you at the Qantas Founders Museum soon! Safe travels

Is it easy to find your way by driving to the museum from one of the local motels.

Yes it is. As mentioned above, Longreach is a small town and easy to navigate. Our Boeing 747 is also pretty easy to see especially if you are coming from the East. Otherwise you can follow the signs to the airport/ Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame or Qantas Founders Museum - we are all in the same director. If you are still unsure, just ask for directions at your hotel/ motel.
