Welcome to the Qantas Founders Museum. We are an independent not-for-profit community organization and registered charity, operating since 1996, to commemorate the ethos and preserve the material heritage of the founders and early operations of Qantas Airways Ltd. Today, we are a world-class museum and cultural display, eloquently telling the story of the founding of Qantas through interpretive displays, interactive exhibits, replica aircraft and an impressive collection of genuine artifacts. Our collection incorporates four of the world’s most significant airliners – the Consolidated PBY Catalina Flying Boat, the Douglas DC3, the Boeing 707 and the legendary Boeing 747. In addition, we have full scale replicas of some of the most important aircraft in the early Qantas fleet – the DeHaviland DH-61 Giant Moth, the DeHaviland DH-50, and the Avro 504k Dyak; Qantas’ first ever aircraft.

We visited the museum and were not disappointed. We did the guided tour and it was well worth the money. If your going you must do this or you won't get the best out of the museum. We got to go into 2 planes and got brilliant tour from our guide Peter. You could easy spend half a day here.

We had the most enjoyable time visiting the Qantas museum in Longreach with all of the history there and the excellent displays all the way back to the start of Qantas. The conducted tour buy this well informed tour director was excellent and his knowledge of all the aircraft was something to be believed. I would think a trip to... More

I did the main tour and then the wing walk tour. I was lucky to be the only one on the wing walk tour which was just fantastic. Sitting in the captains seat in the cockpit of the 747-200 was magic. The tour guides were very knowledgable but their passion for the history and the aircrafts was infectious. I topped... More

If you're considering doing all the sight seeing in Longreach, you need to do your homework. Excursions can cost you a packet, so plan ahead and look for "packages". A much cheaper way to go. We were in a group of 35, so it meant our guide had to move us along, and in the heat, people either wouldn't listen... More

I did the Platinum tour, which includes wing walks in the 742 and 707. You get into the cockpit and see behind the scenes of a 747 which will blow you away. Carissa, my tour guide, was exceptional. Her knowledge blew me away and added to the experience. The museum is packed full of QANTAS history and even if you're... More

Visited the museum today. We only took the $28 general admission to see the museum. You can have 1.5hr tour of the 747 plane and a walk on the wing but that costs a total of $128. The museum doesn't look big but once you sit at various points to watch videos it takes time. We spent 3.5hrs in the... More

This place is really worth the effort to get there. The origins of QANTAS are well explained and there is a lot of history here. The video showing the arrival of the B747 really captures the challenge faced and the excitement of the people of Longreach. The visit to the 707 and 747 are worth doing and the staff at... More
