Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My friend and I popped into this centre to collect a map and ask for directions to Barron Falls. We were both extremely taken aback by the unhelpful woman behind the desk who responded with: “I wouldn’t advise going because there’s heavy traffic and too dangerous to walk there”. This shocked us as we had specifically done our research online regarding this tourist attraction. Luckily we stopped by a local cafe for a cup of coffee after travelling all the way from Cairns by bus that morning. The lovely barista at (Riley’s Cafe and Bar) told us we could quite easily walk through the Jumrum Creek trail, take a right turn at the road and follow the road for 20 minutes and as easy as that we arrived at Barron Falls SAFELY having only passed 4 cars en route.

Thank you for your feedback. As an accredited visitor centre we have to be mindful of safety for our visitors. The road to the Barron Falls is narrow with no pavement and can be hazardous for not only walkers, but also vehicles which can include large motor homes. For this reason the volunteers do advise visitors that the walk is not safe. If they then choose to do the walk that is their decision. We have received complaints in the past from people who did the walk and tell us it isn’t safe. I’m glad you were able to visit the falls in the end and do apologise if you felt we weren’t helpful. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay.

Before our visit I rang the centre to check information on the markets. I was told the Original Markets were now open on Monday, but when we arrived some stalls were operating but not many. Likewise many of the shops in Kuranda were closed. When I made a comment in the visitor information centre about this it was dismissed with “well school holidays are over” – which is precisely why we were there at that time. There were plenty of tourists around. I realise that international tourists are missing but domestic tourists are doing their bit and don’t want to be confronted with lots of businesses closed on Monday – perhaps they could stagger the closures.

Thank you for your review. The Original Markets do operate from Thursday to Monday, however some stalls may have chosen to close as the holidays were over. We do not have any control over market operations and can only give out information supplied to us - if some stalls choose to close we are not aware of it. The markets have staggered their trading days with the Heritage markets opening from Wednesday to Sunday.

When you get to the top at Kuranda there is a lot to do. Make sure you view their site prior to going especially if you are on a tour and have limited time. There is the Kuranda Koala Gardens where you can cuddle a Koala (lines are very long) and see other animals or visit the Butterfly Sanctuary or Bird World. There are a lot of shops and restaurants as well so make sure you use your time wisely. If you really want to cuddle a Koala, you may want to visit the Wildlife Dome at the Casino in Cairns where there is less of a crowd.

We went to get a map so we could walk by the river and as we were looking at the map a member of the team approached us and her fists words were “you are looking at the wrong side of the map”. Well, we weren’t as we wanted the river map not the town centre map and her first words were basically insulting. No attempt to be friendly or helpful just an assumption she knew what we wanted without asking. We have been to Kuranda before so we wanted to do something different but her approach meant we could not ask her advice. Never mind the map did help us even if the staff didn’t.

Rarely have I come across such lovely staff at a tourist information centre! I can definitely say that Catherine and her staff do go the extra mile. My experience with them was just great, and they also helped me organise an aboriginal tour in the forest and surroundings with local guide Errol, who was just so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I learnt so much about the past and present aboriginal culture in the area, which no other more "touristy" things in the field would have taught me before. Thanks a lot Kuranda team!

Visited there today . The staff/volunteers were the rudest couple I have ever met. I know it was 10 to 3pm and there were closing shortly basically they said we couldn't come in then the Man said ok as we only wanted to see the spider, frog etc which was a 2 min visit. Ask the woman about the spider she said she was to busy to be answering question!!!! Tourism has been devastated in Kuranda they way were spoken and treated was deplorable. I do voluntary in an Info booth in another State Of Aust. I know the info area is the place to sell the area. I'm sure the traders would be disappointed.

Thank you for your feedback. We do our best to assist our visitors if they arrive on closing time, however in this instance I understand the volunteers were not able to stay back.

What a great info center. We got lots of information here and were very thankful for it. I had wanted to see where the flying foxes were and one of the staff told us where to go to see them. Unfortunately the place was closed but we managed to peek through the fence to get a few pix.

There is so much to do and places to see in this area, I wished we'd had another couple days to explore them more.

Unfortunately we only got to spend about 10 minutes at the information centre but jeez I wish we had more time. The lady who engaged with us was one of the most lovely and polite women I have ever spoken to. She was so keen to help us out with anything we needed, and basically gave us a tour around the entire information facility. One of the best Information Centres I have been to in the country...definitely pop in and say g’day!

Lovely centre, very helpful lady who gave us a discount voucher for the butterfly garden. Had a nice chat while admiring the cases of stick insects and little tree frogs.
Definitely worth popping in :)
