The original Kuranda Scenic Railway is a spectacular journey comprising unsurpassed views of World Heritage Listed rainforest, steep ravines and picuresque waterfalls within the Barron Gorge National Park. This famous railway winds its way from Cairns to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest. Constructed between 1882 and 1891 it is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. Hundreds of men were employed to build the 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges that stand as a monument to the pioneers of tropical North Queensland

We decided to upgrade to gold class and I'm so glad we did! Snacks, beverages and souvenirs provided not to mention the comfortable seating and very clean train car to ride in. I would definitely book with them again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience travelling on the kuranda railway. Quaint railway station at freshwater to start the journey before we started in the beautiful old rail carriages. The scenery through the rainforest and waterfalls was sensational and every part of the journey was great.

Much of the trip was fogged over due to recent wet season rains, but hey - it IS a rain forrest😜. Good history and a pleasant rail trip. Well worth the effort no matter what time of year.

Hi Peter, Yes, several (not all) carriages had facilities and it was easy to move between carriages to those that did if your allocated carriage did not. Also facilities at the stations. Hope you enjoy your trip. Regards, Sam
