I have really mixed feelings about this place. First of all, be aware that you'll have to pay a steep price to take a bus to and from the Rainforestation. We were under the impression we could walk there from the Skyrail/Train dropoff and that's definitely not the case. We were really unhappy that Rainforestation doesn't mention that, or include bus fare in the tickets.
Additionally, the bus driver wasted a lot of our time sitting and waiting until every last inch of bus space was full before taking us on to the park. Everyone complained when, with an already full bus, he took on a group of 11 more people. We were packed like sardines.
Anyway, by the time we got there, we only had time for one activity if we wanted to have even 45 minutes to shop in the village before our Skyrail tickets were to take us back to Cairns. We chose the Duck Boat tour and really enjoyed that (although we had hoped to see crocodiles). Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us some really interesting info about the plants. We enjoyed the tour, but were disappointed that we didn't have time to do anything else there. I would rate this much higher if they had been forthcoming about the bus fare, and the extra time you waste in coming in on the bus.

Hi Megan, Thanks so much for visiting Rainforestation and for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. It's great to hear that you enjoyed exploring the rainforest on an authentic World War 2 Army Duck- it certainly is a unique and informative way to learn more about our fascinating rainforest flora. Although you are unable to spot crocodiles on our Army Duck Tour, our Koala and Wildlife Park is home to two giant Estaurine Crocodiles, Jack the Ripper and Aggro. You can even join a guided tour to learn more about these impressive giant reptiles. The shuttle bus prices are currently $12.50 return for an adult and $6.25 for a child to and from Kuranda Village. The buses depart regularly (every half hour). We recommend that our customers book through our sister company Tropic Wings (tropicwings.com.au) if they would like an all-round Kuranda experience that includes Skyrail, Train, Rainforestation and Kuranda Village (including shuttle bus), as this experience is timed to fit the most activities possible into the day. Thanks again for your feedback :) Amanda

This could be a great opportunity to introduce people, both locals and tourist, to the aboriginals but the program was more "I dance, throw spears and boomerangs". I would cut out some of the dances (instead of one dance after another) and talk about why they would use this dance, what it means to the tribes, why they had this dance and why they decided to create it.. Make it more of a learning experience instead of just entertainment. Same with the boomerangs. Theres multiple types and uses for a boomerang but this wasn't explained during on of the experiences or shown. I felt rushed from one station to the next.

The animal part was a little sad. I've been to multiple sanctuaries and zoos while in Australia and this one was the most confining. The kangaroos you could feed didn't have areas they could bounce too that we humans couldnt go to when they had enough of humans. The spaces looked smaller too.Oh and you can only pet a Koala here, not hold one encase someone is looking into doing that.

The duck tour was interesting. Too bad it couldn't go farther down a river in the water but that was the most educational part of everything I saw. They pointed out plants (dangerous ones and some interesting ones), noted history, and how these plants interacted with the aboriginals.

It was easy to get to and the staff were all amazing and helpful.

Hi, Thanks for visiting Rainforestation and for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are surprised to hear that you were not happy with the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, as this experience recently won a Queensland Tourism Award in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Culture. This award ensures that our experience is one of the most high quality and authentic experiences in the state. In regards to the animals, our wildlife exhibits more than exceed the legally required sizes of such enclosures, and are maintained regularly. We appreciate your concern for the welfare of the animals in the wildlife park, but I can assure you that our keepers are passionate experts in looking after our animals. The free-roaming kangaroos and wallabies have a roped-off area where they can go to when they don't wish to interact with our customers. We have recently made some adjustments to our Koala Experience options. Our exciting news that we have a couple of joeys in the pouch marks a success in our koala breeding program. This will help to further educate the public on the need to protect our Australian-native species. This exciting announcement comes at a serendipitous time given the tragic effect of the devastating bushfires have had on our koala inhabitants. During this time, koala interactions will be on a limited basis as we adhere to strict regulations. This will ensure the best possible outcome for Mums and joeys ensuring koala populations are healthy for future generations to appreciate. It's great to hear that you were impressed with our team :) Thanks again for your feedback, Amanda

The staff here are very friendly and there are many interactive and very enjoyable experiences here. We did a 10:00am aqua duck ride, the driver/tour guide was really good, had us all laughing and was very informative. Then we did a 11:30am dream time walk where we were taught to throw boomerangs, watched spear throwing and a didgeridoo performance. At 12:00 we watched an Aboriginal dance show which was very entertaining. Finally at 1:15pm we watched the crocodile be fed, and in between all of this we fed kangaroos and had a photo with a koala. We caught the 2:15pm local bus to Cairns but you could also get the free shuttle back to kuranda and catch the skyrail or scenic railway down. Our kids were kept entertained all day. My favourite part of the day was the boomerang throwing, watching the dance show and watching the croc be fed. The tour guide from the aqua duck also showed us some green ants, apparently they are edible, the ants tasted like lemon.

We purchased a package deal which included train and sky rail return, butterfly park in Kuranda and rainforestation park.
Had to order lunch before we got on train.
Sadly, the rainforestation park was disappointing. Food was average to say the best.
Bus transported us far to early and we spent quite a lot of time sitting waiting for our allotted “amphibious duck”.
Nothing else was evidently included in our ticket I.e. animals or indigenous performance. We were encouraged to wander through orchard (what orchard) or sit on benches.
Ticket box staff were less than polite.
When we finally got on the ‘duck’, the exhaust smell was so bad from the continual turning on and off of the engine, that I started to feel quite sick. And driving around a very small lake seemed quite ridiculous to what was advertised.
Our time would have been much better spent in Kuranda than at this nature park.
Would not go again and would not recommend. Waste of time and money.

Hi Jaryd, I am sorry to hear that your experience with Rainforestation was not to the standard that we pride ourselves on providing. There are many activities in which to partake at Rainforestation outside of our Army Duck tours, including the Nature Park and Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience which for a small cost can be added to your booking at any time. The Army Duck Tour concentrates on informing and educating our customers about the rainforest, as it traverses through the rainforest on both land and water. The lake which is utilised in the tour was formed by a man-made dam built over 100 years ago when the property was previously a coffee plantation. Our Tropical Fruit Orchard has over 40 different varieties of exotic tropical fruit trees on display, sorry that you missed seeing this. We’re sorry that you were not completely satisfied with our food offering. Due to COVID restrictions we have had to make many changes to our food options, however we have just introduced our new “Aussie BBQ Lunch” option which has been very well-received. I cannot speak for the exact circumstances on the day of your visit, however staff are provided with in depth communication and customer service training. I will follow up on the review of your experience with our team, thank you for providing this feedback.

The rainforestation is a business nature park. They show pictures of people holding koalas for pictures, but that is not allowed. This is fine but don't show it in all your ada. The duck ride is very short and kind of staged looking mostly at plants. The wildlife area is very small. You have to take a bus to it then you are kind of trapped there. You are better off spending your time in Kuranda

Hi, We are disappointed to hear your view on the koala experience. We have recently made some adjustments to our Koala Experience options so this may have resulted in some confusion. Your feedback regarding this incident has been passed on to management so we can ensure information is given clearly to customers. Our exciting news that we have a couple of joeys in the pouch marks a success in our koala breeding program. This will help to further educate the public on the need to protect our Australian-native species. This exciting announcement comes at a serendipitous time given the tragic effect of the devasting bushfires have had on our koala inhabitants. Our foremost importance is always the care and minimised stress with all our wildlife, our expectant mamas at Rainforestation Nature Park are resting. During this time, koala interactions will be on a limited basis as we adhere to strict regulations. This will ensure the best possible outcome for Mums and joeys ensuring koala populations are healthy for future generations to appreciate. As the Army Duck Rainforest Tour travels through natural rainforest, the amount of wild animals we see on the tour varies and unfortunately can’t be guaranteed however there is always a lot to learn and see in the Rainforest itself. Thanks again, Amanda

We visited the village and had a guided tour and the small sanctuary and see a dingoo and the tasmanian devil. Then we got on the Army duck -amphibious car and had a tour through the Rainforest. Eva,our guide was really nice and knowledgeable. She showed us plenty of tree species among the forest. Gave us details about them, the role the animals are playing in the lush rainforest, the cassowary in particular.
Then we were been showed a traditional hunting of the Pamagarri tribe,Australia indigenous people of this region QLD.
We learned how they throw a boomerang to hunt small animals.
At the afternoon there was a show the traditional dances.
We saw their culture and were and still are so pleased

Hi, Thanks so much for visiting Rainforestation Nature Park and for taking the time to leave a review. It's fantastic to hear that you enjoyed all three elements of our park; the Koala and Wildlife Park, Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience and Rainforest Army Duck Tour. We are the only park in Tropical North Queensland where you can see a Tasmanian Devil, so it's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed seeing this endangered species! The Army Duck Rainforest Tour is a unique and fun way to explore the iconic rainforest environment- it's wonderful to hear that you thought it was educational and informative. The Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience recently won a Queensland Tourism Award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism, so it's great to hear that you found it to be impressive. Thanks again for your kind words, Amanda

Going to rainforestation was the highlight of our trip up to Kuranda! Our young children loved the army duck tour and Chris was an amazing guide - very entertaining and extremely knowledgeable.

We loved the animal section and our daughters had a great time stroking the kangaroos who were so friendly, even those with joeys in their pouches. The baby koalas were also amazing to see - rainforestation is doing a great job with it's breeding programs.

We will be back here again some day and hope that other Australians take the time to support this great business!

Good value for the packages (wildlife, Aboriginal experience and the Army Duck) although seemed just to be lacking that 'je ne sais pas'. Maybe it was due to Covid19 as visitor numbers were well down and staffing levels were decreased (the dance group normally has 8 or so but only three performed). Paid $52 each for all three so not bad at all.

Hi, Thanks so much for visiting Rainforestation Nature Park and for taking the time to leave your feedback. It's fantastic to hear that you thought that our park was good value for money, we certainly agree! Due to the current Covid19 situation and low international visitors, we currently have less team members on duty, and this includes our Pamagirri performers. Fingers crossed that the number of tourists will increase soon!

Visited Rainforestation on a cruise ship shore excursion back in October 2019. We saw various animals: uncaged wallaby’s, kangaroos, caged Tasmanian devil, dingo, cassowary, crocs, koalas, and others. Highlight of this attraction for me: the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience! The Aboriginal men demonstrated dances (with crowd participation), spear throwing, didgeridoo playing, and boomerang throwing...and there was opportunity to participate in learning how to throw the boomerang.
Then, we rode an amphibious World War II Army Duck boat through 100 acres of World Heritage rainforest. It was interesting and a really unique experience. Our tour also included a buffet lunch.
Finally, we took the Skyrail Cableway back down to where our coach was waiting for us, which was a beautiful, scenic ride allowing for a hop on/hop off type experience at a couple of stops for picture-taking. Overall, a very nice experience.

First time visit today for locals and man we have been missing out. We all enjoyed the army duck tour, Chris was interactive and informative. The boomerang throwing, didgeridoo and spear throwing was fantastic and the dancing was captivating . My nephew got up on stage and learnt how to shake a leg. The kids loved getting up close to the large group of friendly kanagroos ( a few of the other local attractions dont have many roos) .
Plus we saw the big croc being fed.
Had such a great time and will be spreading the word with friends and family. We will defiently be back.

Hi, Thanks so much for visiting Rainforestation and for taking the time to leave your review. First of all, thanks for visiting us and for supporting a local business- it's so important at the moment :) It's great to hear that you enjoyed your Army Duck tour with Chris. Seeing our giant crocodile Jack the Ripper at dinner time is always so incredible too. Thanks again, Amanda
