Kuranda rail station exceptional

We drove up from Cairns to Kuranda and found it very enjoyable. We were able to get free parking which was fantastic. We walked around the markets which I have not been for 30 years and found them disappointing. There were a couple of lovely shops /stalls across the whole place however to many cheap tourists shop selling “made in China “ crap. The railway station however is well worth the trip. It is beautiful and the gardens are gorgeous. That only only is worth the trip.

Quirky little Village

Lots of quirky markets, stalls and activities. The original markets are a blast to wander through and the place is very easy to get around, Was odd that the village closes almost completely at 3pm when the scenic train does not depart until 3.30

Village in the Rainforest

Kuranda Village is located at the top of the mountain range above Cairns. The village is surrounded by the oldest living tropical rainforest and has shops, cafes, markets, restaurants and wildlife parks. It is geared to tourists given the amount of souvenir shops. Some of the attractions one can visit for a fee are the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Kuranda Koala Gardens, and Birdworld Kuranda. I would suggest stopping at the Visitor Center to obtain information and maps of the area. There is also a small church in town. Because our train was late leaving Cairns (waiting for another tour group), our time in the village was limited as we were booked to take the Skyrail at a specific time of we were to get back to the ship on time. A Kuranda Train Station and Skyrail stations are located here.
