Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Expensive driving by car.
Speed cameras on road to Kuranda.
Last trip cost me $431 and 3 demerit points.
The Department of Transport fee leaves a sour taste in any trip from Cairns or the Port to Kuranda.

Noting it was a wet, post-Covid public holiday there were hardly any shops open in the market (both sides). This is the third time we've visited (gondala/train firdt time, drove next two). It would be disappointing if this was your first visit as there is nothing much to do up there if you're not into the bird park. The river trip is good value though.

Had a great day looking at market stalls, doing bush walks, seeing lots of things in museums etc, having a delicious lunch & also managed to fit in a round of mini golf. We feel we barely scratched the surface of what to do and see in Kuranda though so we must revisit in the future...Loved it!

What a delightful place. There are so many funky shops here there is sure to be something for everyone. Most all shops were open and we really enjoyed every minute we spent here. There are several options to grab a bite to eat, so many in fact that it was hard to choose.
If you're an 'old Hippy' or just a Hippy at Heart or just a lover of Markets, you'll surely enjoy the kind of creativity displayed here.
Make sure you leave yourself enough time to take it all in, there is so much to see and experience here.

Yuck. Did not enjoy my time at this place at all. You walk through a fog of incense everywhere you go, and it’s full of hippy, Boho junk that will just end up in landfill. Markets is an incredibly generous word for this down and out dirty, stinky little town when nobody bothers to brush their hair or clean their teeth. Would have left straight away if I had a car but had to wait for the train. Do not recommend at all unless you want to catch a disease

We went for a look dissapointed alot of repetitive products in the stalls. Colourful yes, would spend along time here, no. Insence very strong throughout the market. A bit over powering. I see now why other reviews say had its hay day. Go for a quick look expect crowds in the Karunda village cafes. 🫖🥤

Having been here 12 years and 20 years ago, I bought my children and parents this time and was embarrassed by what we saw. The markets were run down, many empty stores and not the vibrant place I remember at all. The mayor and people of this village need a serious rethink on how to revive the place. Think live music and more market stalls.

After reading the reviews on here about Kuranda, we weren’t going to go however, we ended up driving through the town on our way to somewhere else so we decided to stop in. I’m actually really glad we did! It’s an alternative little place with so many nooks and crannies to explore. It’s extremely peaceful and quiet. The people are extremely down to earth and it’s definitely a change of scenery. I do recommend stopping in there. Gives you a sense of magic ✨🍄🦋 there are some empty stalls but that didn’t impact our experience in any way. Go check it out and support small QLD businesses!

The first lot of markets we came across in the centre of town were pretty pathetic so was hoping The Heritage Markets will be a cut above. But really nothing of interest at all. You can view them in about 5 minutes. These were also small but better variety and interest than the other one. I had read that there was great places to eat and the best of this and that and really we couldn’t see anything that really took our fancy. We bought nothing and ate in the main street. A bit of a let down.
