Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I love it. However just do it by your own rather then book it by a tour...doesn't have any coaching that goes with you. Rent a car and do Kuranda National Park on your own and do the train view for 2 hours. It is worth to do it and specially by train.

With the help of the GPS we tried to visit Barron Falls but it brought us to a work site so we gave up.
The first time we saw it was from the historic Karunda train, this was a lovely outing, we went on a return trip. The spectacular pictures you see from Barron Falls is during the wet season and we came to Cairns to get away from wet and cold Melbourne in September.
As part of the train trip Barron Falls was less spectacular but nice. Karunda itself is a lovely township and worth the trip by itself, if you visit it by Car however be prepared for the long and winding road.
As mentioned we went by train and decided to go with a Gold pass as we did the Cable Cabin trip about 10 years earlier. The Gold pass was good value we had comfortable seats and along with some finger food and drinks we were entertained by a bubbly Brazilian hostess on our way up to Karunda, on the way down to Cairns we had a more demure hostess but none the less a great time with great scenery.

We saw this attraction twice as the Kuranda Train stops here for 10 minutes each way. On the way up the weather was fine and everybody got out and took photos, on the way back it was raining and only 2 or 3 people got out to take photos. The photo in the picture is not realistic as the waterfall is a bit far away unless you have a super amazing camera. Im glad this area isn't taken advantage off with merchants around train times as it allows you to take in the vast atmosphere and get a few train pics

We drove from Port Douglas to Barron Gorge Falls, the drive itself is absolutley amazing.
It was raining when we were on tge way to the falls. Coming from SA, i have never seen so much rain in my life. We walked to main viewing platform just a short walk from the carpark, took a couple photos, then the rain started to pour down, we decided to do the walk through the rainforest, all on elevated platforms.
Its a really nice walk, it was picture perfect everywhere you looked.
My phone got so wet it stopped working, couldnt take any pics on the way, or at the bottom viewing area, but it was amazing.
Highly reccomend bringing a poncho or umbrella if you visit Cairns.
Coming from SA, we get 400mm rain in a year, but we had 460mm of rain in 3 days here. Glad we got to see the wet tropics in a rain event, and we went to the Falls on monday the 19th,
On the 20th, it would have been even better.
Amazing experience.

We arrived quite early and there is the option to take the bus up to the final walk to the falls. We elected to walk as we felt we would see a lot more on the way. The walk was well worth it seeing the massive trees and bird life that you would miss if you took the bus up. The walk is bout 2 kilometres and it is a easy walk for any age. We are all in our sixties and we all enjoyed it.
The falls were not over active due to a dryer period but it is certainly worth the visit.
Plenty of parking at the centre and they’re is even a coffee shop to enjoy a refreshment after your walk.
For those that find walking difficult the bus is a good option, although once you reach the end of the bus trip, there is a 500 metre walk to the falls.

These falls are amazing! You can see them from both sides, one from a stop on the SkyRail and one from lookouts on the other side of the river and gorge. I've read some reviews here saying they were disappointed that there wasn't more water, but check out the videos on YouTube if you want the flood times. Just enjoy the magnificence of the rock faces and falls themselves!

Great to visit after a cyclone deluge. The boardwalk with viewing platforms is easy to navigate albeit a little steep in parts for small kids on the return journey. The biggest hassle to navigate is jostling for a carpark in the limited parking area. Patience paid off though with cars coming and going fairly frequently. Toilets in the top end of the carpark were handy.

We saw Barron Falls from the Skyrail stop.
On the way up we made 2 stops. One at Red Peak and then at the Barron Falls stop we stopped and spent some time watching the water tumble over the top edge and make its way to the bottom by way of different branches. There was a huge amount of water coming down which made for a spectacular view. It was quite spectacular as there had a been a lot of rain. When we drove up to Kuranda another day, we visited the falls again but from a different perspective- the other side. Not as much water that day but still worth seeing.

Turned out to be a perfect time to see the falls! There’s been a bit of rain in Cairns the last few days so Barron Falls has actually got a little ‘fall’ — so beautiful to see the water escaping over the top and powering down full speed. Usually when I’m here the falls are pretty dry, so it’s been awesome to see it with a little rapid. Lots of people doing the falls rainforest walk solo and with their families. A few butterflies around as well as the little scrub turkeys. Be careful on your drive to Barron Falls and Kuranda area as there are a lot of cassowary crossings and we need to make sure we keep those magnificent birds safe and protected. Happy hiking!

This was the second stop on the Skyrail cable car 🚠 experience. Sloping boardwalks, not many steps. The falls were not at full capacity, and weather had been dry. Good to see rainforest. Hopped into third cable car at Barron Falls stop. Good photo opportunity.

I am planning to drive to the Baroon Falls Lookout, is it a sealed road from Kennedy Hwy to the car park?
And how long does it takes from the car park to the lookout?
Thanks

I think the road from Kuranda is sealed all the way. From the car park it is a short walk - say 5 minutes or so

We will be staying at Trinity Beach, Have no car, what is the best way to travel to Barron falls, public transport etc???

Is the Barron Falls Shuttle Bus still operating? The Kuranda Village brochure shows it on the map and describes it, and the Chakana Travel web site says it is a new attraction in Kuranda. But the Chakana facebook page says it closed down in 2013. We won't have a car in Kuranda (will visit by Skyrail/Train), and want to see Barron Falls. Can we get to do this from Kuranda Village without a car please? Thanks for your help.
