About Daintree Boatman Wildlife Cruises
Daintree Boatman Wildlife Cruises provides small-group, wildlife cruises for close views of highly sought-after birds, snakes and crocodiles on the mighty Daintree River. Two hour cruises ($65 adult, $40 child) are provided at dawn and dusk whilst birds are at their most active and the river is at its most scenic. Cruises cater for a maximum of just 10 passengers and are customised to the interests of the passengers. The boat used is a unique 'hybrid' vessel utilising both a regular outboard and a commercial-quality electric motor which enables less disturbance of wildlife and better wildlife viewing. Cruises depart from the Daintree Village boat ramp. Private cruises are available for those with a specific interest such as wildlife photography.

Murray did not have room for the four of us on his Dawn cruise but was happy to offer us a one and a half hour private morning cruise. We really enjoyed hearing about and seeing the Daintree River wildlife. Murray was very knowledgeable and it was great being being able to ask plenty of questions and pause as long as we wanted for photos.

We booked the morning family trip with Daintree Boatman, but the day we showed up we realised our booking date was wrong. Murray was great, took us on board anyway. It was a fantastic morning, cruising on the river and its side channels … the scenery is wonderful and we saw heaps of crocks and beautiful birds as well … kids absolutely loved it. We would definitely do it again! Thanks so much Murray!

Don't miss this if you are visiting Port Douglas! What an interesting and fun experience in a small open boat. Murray Hunt, the friendly owner and our guide on this evening adventure, is an expert on the wildlife of the Daintree River. He also has the eyes of a hawk. We saw a large variety of birds during our 2-hour exploration of the main river and one of its narrow side creeks. They included a great-billed heron (and many other species of heron), four kinds of kingfisher, a black-necked stork and, how he spotted them I do not know, three Papuan frogmouths hidden in foliage and motionless. Murray saw, on every occasion before we did, five separate saltwater crocodiles of varying sizes on the river banks and learned much about these fascinating animals from Murray. The largest, and boss of this stretch of the river, was the last one we found, lying motionless on a grassy mudbank, estimated to be just over 4m length and around 30 years old. Sitting in an open boat about 10m away was an out-of-mind experience. Strongly recommended.

Ahh thank you for your lovely review. Trick with a lot of the wildlife of the river is that they often have favourite spots and if your gentle with them - not approaching too close - then they will often appear again daily, weather and tide allowing.

Our family had a great dawn cruise with Murray earlier this week. Murray clearly knows his birds and local wildlife. Nice small group of 10 people. We saw rare, beautiful birds, butterflies and crocodiles. Murray goes the extra mile to make the cruise interesting and well worth the early start!

Good. Thank you for your review. I too am not too happy with the very early alarm clock each day but the reward is the river at its best! Thanks for attending.

We did sunset and sunrise trips, both excellent. Significant bird and croc sightings. Murray was knowledgable and accommodating to guest’s area of interest. It was so peaceful floating down creek and Daintree. Thoroughly enjoyable!
