$5 entry for adults, kids free. Good explanations of Cooktown history, including local families, which was great to read as my maternal great grandparents were married in Cooktown

A few generations ago my falily were prominent here and there was an exhibition including them in this museum. But the assistance of the volunteer archivist was wonderful, and I left with some 18 pages of family documents and suggestions for further research.

A visit to the Cooktown History Centre is highly recommended and the entry fee is a bargain at only $5.00. Housed in the oldest building in Cooktown, the museum displays historical information about the area including early mining, the railway, highway and the growth of tourism. The WW1 exhibition with its letters, photos, cards and stories is very moving and... More

I am not a big fan of these types of tourist points but seeing that I am "dinky di" I decidef to go look see. The $5 entry fee helps keep the place up and running. It was interesting to read some of our history so go see for yourself. Cheers and dafe travel to all

A great place to learn more about Cook and Cooktown. Excerpts of Cook's diaries are on the wall and make for a great read. A lovely building with great views over the town from the top balcony - worth sitting for a while there and relaxing.

Good place to do family research as they seem to have access to most records since the very beginning of Cooktown. If the friendly folks there can't find what you want they will happy to look into it for you.
