Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a bit of trouble scheduling our cave tours at Chillagoe with visits to the other local tourist sites. In late September it was getting hot by late morning. Our solution was to do the Balancing Rock first thing in the morning. This worked a treat - nice temperature, clear skies, a few birds around and hardly any people. And the views over the rugged karst country are wonderful.

The short climb up to Balancing Rock is part of the circuit access track on the hill. The view from the Rock over the countryside is amazing, and the sheer size of the rock can only be appreciated close up.
After viewing the rock, the short, flat track to the nearby cave art is interesting, although some more information about the actual markings would be good.

The Township is well worth the extra trip West of Mareeba. We stayed in the little township of Almadin. About 35km East of Chillagoe village as the last stretch of road was in parts gravel and I did not wish to take our caravan any further. We camped at Tamarind Gardens lovely caravan park and owner. Nor used very much these days. Went over to the pub a couple of time as was walking distance and owned by two ladies. "Great atmosphere" and lovely Ladies.

You’ll wonder what keeps this huge rock sitting up there, lovely 5min walk to the rock, with amazing views if you go a bit higher.

We really loved the mysterious Balancing Rock. It is an easy walk which takes you up and through the karsts. There are a lot of information panels and a little car park. There was no one else there when we went, which was just perfect. What is most fascinating is how this entire area was once the bed of a large inland sea stretching down from the gulf of carpentaria. Having gone on a snorkelling trip to the outer reef from Cairns just a couple of days before was a great contrast.

If your visiting the caves this rock formation is only a five minute drive away.
Requires an uphill walk but it's not too difficult.
Take some interesting photos!!

It is an easy walk to get to Balancing Rock, which defies logic - well worth the effort to get there.

A must do only 205 klms from Cairns.
Astounding this area was under the sea millions of years ago. The drive out is great and book the caves tour as well.

This was nice to see between caves tours. Also close by is an aboriginal art where you can sit down and cool down on a hot day.
