We took our two children along for the safari tour and initially I thought it was fairly costly but after the experience, we were so glad we went. We went so close to many of the amazing longhorns and my son got to pat a calf as well. The farm, surrounds and experience as a whole was so professional and well executed. The owners were fabulous. A very memorable experience.

The Texas Longhorn Safari was just like an African safari, being driven around in Polaris Rangers all wheel drive, go anywhere, light weight bush bashers. The day started with a welcoming greeting by the owners of Leahton Park, Lynda and Michael Bethel. We then watched a film on Leahton station and the history of Texas Longhorn cattle. An explanation of how the cattle are artificially inseminated followed. We then boarded the Polaris vehicles and were driven through the large property getting up close and personal with the Texas Longhorn cattle, as well as other breeds such as bison and Scottish highlander cattle. The morning finished with tea and yummy biscuits and slices. The whole experience was informative and it was obvious the passion and love Lynda and Mick have for their cattle.

We drove from Townsville just for this tour, and it was worth it. You can see the love Mick and Lynda have for the cattle and their way of life. The tour started with a talk about the history of Leahton Ranch. This was done in front of a genuine chuck wagon, a small cabin and an open fire. Then we all piled in to atvs and went out to meet the gentle giants. Big, gentle, curious creatures. After the atvs there was plenty of icy cold drinks, or hot drinks, with anzac biscuits and two diffrent slices. A wagon ride, tour of the love shack and a visit to the saddlery rounded out the tour. Everything was slick and span. There was nothing tired about the tour or the ranch. Mick had plenty of stories and Dad jokes to share. You could get really close to the animals, they enjoyed a scratch. Mick looked like he stepped right our of the wild west and Lynda was a friendly gracious host. The shop was well maintained and reasonably priced.oh and there was a mob of kangaroo at their front gate!

I had a boys weekend away camping and we choose this tour to do in our travels. We all loved it. The nicnacs in the rustic sheds kept the kids interested until the tour started. The tour itself is well done with the right amount of enthusiasm and love and parting of knowledge to entertain the group at all levels. Highly Recommended to start a great day in the Outback.

Highly recommend this tour. We did the safari tour and loved it. Lynda is a great host and very informative on all the runnings of the station. Texas longhorns are majestic animals and very inquisitive. Morning tea was delicious. This is the best tour experience we had throughout our travels. A must do when visiting Charters Towers.

What a great tour. if you had no respect for these animals before you went you will certainly have respect by the time you leave. Great couple who are passionate about the longhorns they breed. Lots of different breeds and a wagon ride to boot.

What an interesting place. The tour included a wagon ride amongst the longhorn, buffalo, bison . You could practically touch the animals. Mick was very informative with his knowledge and kept us amused with his quick wit. Linda explained the Artificial insemination process and demonstrated how it was done. Wow. Morning tea and delicious slice was great. The gallery with Longhorn JT preserved by a taxidermist and artwork and polished horns was excellent. This tour was the highlight of Charters Towers for us .

Wow, these animals are so impressive. We LOVED doing this tour and have some really great pictures from it. I have to admit I was kind of s**** myself once we actually got out and really close to them. I started to think sheesh, what have I signed up for, they are big and those horns look so much scarier once they are within a few metres from you. But it was all perfectly safe and I loved that the lady owner (can't recall her name now) kind of added to the thrill by making some jokes about one of the longhorns sometimes wanting to get in the little ATV buggies. It genuinely had me a bit nervous haha but they have never had any mishaps here.
The have done such a fantastic job with this place and I would happily go back again for another tour (this time hopefully a bit more confident and a little less nervous once I got out in the paddock haha).

We did the safari tour yesterday with Zeta. She was fabulous and provided such a detailed overview of the farm and the all the animals, along with the fabulous longhorns. It was such a well structured tour and as big animal lovers, it was so nice to see how loved all the animals are. We have been traveling for almost a year and it is definitely in the top 5 tours that we have done. Highly recommend it.

Highly recommend this tour. We did the safari tour and absolutely loved it. Linda was wonderful and answered all of our questions and it never felt rushed at all. She even offered to take photos in front of these amazing animals for anyone who wanted to. The morning tea was delicious and then we could take our time wandering around the other exhibits they had on display. They even had a wonderful gift shop with lots of souvenirs and other interesting things. Definitely one not to be missed when visiting Charters Towers.
