Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well worth the very bumpy drive from the main road.
It was a super hot day and there had been plenty of rain fall when we visited Cardwell, the locals told us this was a must visit. And it is.

Parking is good and there are picnic tables, so grabbing some food in Cardwell and heading up would be a good idea. Be aware that there are no loos or changing facilities there!

There is a good solid path down to the pools and it is easy to slip into the water which is amazing on a hot day. The current was very strong when we visited due to the heavy rain so do be careful.
Some reef shoes would be a good idea, the rocks are a bit sharp. There are ledges that you can sit on and just enjoy the water or the brave can get right in and have a swim or a wander.

This isn't a big place, so an early visit may mean you have it to yourself?

Unfortunately due to lack of rain in quite some time, the spa was pretty much completely dry and mosquitos had taken over the spa and surrounding puddles. I can imagine that it would be beautiful when full and water and blue though.
Dirt road drive to get there and really felt like our GPS was sending us somewhere else!

Visited around 10am on a Sunday in March. No one else was there. It's a beautiful little swimming spot with a rock formation spa.

It's great but there was a decent current. You have to swim against it always and the little spa area had rushing water that threw me over.

There's also a lot of angry mozzies
Bring repellent.

Apart from that its a fantastic spot for a dip and a great photo opportunity.

I visited on a Saturday and I'm guessing maybe the dirty secluded roads turn people off as there was no one there but me. It was early morning though so perhaps not hot enough yet.

What a dream spot with an actual little spa to sit in. If I didn't have 10 other things to do that day i would have gone in and stayed longer.

A lovely natural pool. This was a delightful find. Full of water after rains, clean and tidy but it is small. If you pull up and they are heaps of cars, perhaps try later. The water is clear, clean, fresh and the most beautiful colour.

Green, slimy, puddle. Definitely don’t bother in the dry season.
Also not well signed. Make sure to use Google Maps as Apple Maps sends you down the wrong road and then tries to send you through private property.

We arrived just before the rain so there wasn't much spa activity. The larger pool area was stunning and refreshing. Only two others were there when we visited. You do have to travel for a bit on an unsealed track but that shouldn't be an issue for most cars on a fine day.

The Spa Pool (just north of Cardwell) is a nice little surprise in the sense it is unheralded and in the middle of nowhere with no signage or directions and feels like a secret sanctuary the rest of the world doesn’t know about. I came on a summer afternoon and had the pool to myself and enjoyed the peace and tranquility. That said, the spa is tiny (and man made) so you may not get in when others are around but you should be able to have a dip in the striking turquoise waterhole (the bright colouring is amazing) which sits just downstream if it hasn’t been too dry.

To get there: head north out of Cardwell towards Tully and drive for less than 5 minutes then turn left at Brasenose St. Follow the road until it turns into an old dirt track and continue for about 10 mins, following the signs until you cross a small creek. The Spa Pool is just around the corner from this.

I found this little treasure by chance, there are no signs off the main highway at Cardwell - turn at the Cardwell Lookout sign and follow the signs from the lookout.
The dirt road in was slightly corrugated but passable in my Mazda 3.

The water was a bit low and only just flowing, so the spa pool wasn't very spa-ry but it was still a lovely way to cool down. It was very peaceful, there are a few picnic tables and some parking.

It's about 8k off the highway from Cardwell and 153 k from Townsville and I intend to visit again.
