Back to Cape Trib for the first time in 38 years, and what a disappointment it was. The place has been turned into yet another victim of mass tourism. Tons of people everywhere, horrible traffic, the original business owners replaced by greedy and rude types from the South who are only interested in ripping you off and bringing even more tourists into the area. In short: not recommended anymore.
The place is still beautiful, but you have to hurry up if you want to see it before it is destroyed. A bridge across the Daintree is in discussion and the Bloomfield Road is slowly but surely upgraded to accomodate even larger crowds heading north.

The Daintree is a world heritage listed region and one of Australia’s most iconic national parks: well worth visiting, it offers a range of experiences suited to all tastes.
Very popular with day trips from Cairns and Port Douglas, it can at times be very busy: in addition, the Cape Trib area is also popular with international backpackers.
A few days is required to take in all that the Daintree has to offer, from National Park rainforest boardwalks and other hikes, boat trips on the Daintree spotting crocodiles, spotting cassowaries, splendid beaches including iconic reef/rainforest interfaces and 4WDing the renowned CREB and Bloomfield tracks, just to name a few.
Accommodation ranges from camping to luxury and there is a wide range of eating options in peak times.
Best seen, I think, in your own transport, entering by way of the Daintree ferry.
we camped for three nights at the NP campground at Noah Beach in our recent stay during the COVID times of mid-2020: crowds were minimal and it was great to visit the attractions without the people.
A must visit Australian National Park.

I visited on a day tour which took me across the Daintree river to Mount Alexandra Lookout & Thornton beach up to Cape Tribulation, with a few stops in between such as the Marrdja walk and Daintree ice cream shop. A very rewarding day and great to have a guide along to talk about the Daintree at length with enthusiasm, although the roads are paved all the way to Cape Tribulation so the drive can easily be done in any car.
While a day tour is great, if you do a bit of prior research on places to stop at along the way, you can pretty much control your own day and stop anywhere you like with your own vehicle. There are a few small shops along the way, and in the dry season the road is very easy to drive on.

What a spectacular rainforest. Our guide tells us that the creeping vines and emerald canopy of the Daintree Rainforest have been growing for more than 180 million years. Easy to see why this national park is at the top of everyone's list of places to see.

It was fortunate that we visited this area when there were border closures. The National Park was tranquil and quiet. Beautiful beaches fringing lush green rain forest. A must-do is to do the boardwalks. You don't need to do those elevated boardwalks where you have to pay. The free boardwalks will give you a more natural experience.

It is really sad what urbanization can do to the oldest rainforest in the world, and before one realises what has been destroyed for developing roads for interstate connect, all that remains is a piece that will make us regret our choices
Nevertheless, it's a must must must do on the list of doing things in Australia
Because we did a day trip to so.many things due to little time on hand, we couldn't soak-in everything ...Including a trek. But no complains. Thus, if you have some time on hand, visit this one without it overlapping other plans.

An absolute must - the Rain Forest must be visited by whatever means you wish. We drove to the official Park Centre and had a wonderful infiormative walk Allow at least 3 hours. The cafe sells pleasant snacks. The staff are helpful. The gift shop is all 'Made in China" kust unbelievable - surely there are local products??

Supberbly developed tourist walks with low impact to the rainforest. Four easily accessible boardwalks (each show cases the different parts of the Rainforest, to make time to do them all) and a lovely natural Jindala route. Lots to see and appreciate.

It’s claimed to be one of the oldest rainforest in the world, another is in Madagasscar. The unique flora and fauna here are amazing to be learned and explored. Many point of attractions, such as Daintree river cruise to encounter freshwater, estuarine crocs, platypus seeing, canopy walk, mangrove trail, seaside , swimming in capetribulation and many picturesque lookouts, one is Alexandra lookout. If you have limited time, 1 day waterfall circuit for adventurer or 1day daintree river tour is ok.

went on a road trip and decided to spend 3 nights in the daintree. It is such a beautiful and special place. We stayed at Ocean safari and did the walks around Cape Tribulation. Just an amazing place to visit. Also insect repellent is a must! but a small price to pay for the beauty of the daintree.

Hello
We will be in Port Douglas from sept 10th to 13th (with a car like toyota Corolla) . I just want to know what we can do on our own (by foot or by car) and what we can do with a tourguide (by feet, or car , or boat with an idea of cost and duration) to visit Mossman Cascade and Daintree forest
Thanks in advance

I would like to stay in Daintree National Park. Where would you suggest?
Written 21 May 2019
Hi. There are a few Eco-Lodges in the Daintree itself. Which are good and can be found via goggle etc. But personally I would normally stay in Port Douglas and drive up for the day - about an hours drive. PD also has a lot to offer the visitor.

Hello, if I were to self-drive, do I need to rent a 4wd or would compact car suffice? cheers
Written 12 April 2018
A standard small car is fine in the dry season. A 4wd may be necessary in big wet seasons as there are some creek crossings. If too wet the main river crossing can flood out. Hope this helps :)

Does anyone have suggested itineraries for self-drive, self-guided tours? We will have 1 full day to explore north of the river, departing Daintree Village.

We drove up to daintree from port Douglas. We drove first to jungle surfing (highly recommend doing this in the morning as it does get sticky as it gets warmer) and checked out myall beach after then went a bit further up to cape tribulation (stunning!!) before heading back down stopping at Noah beach, marrdja boardwalk, Thornton beach and cow bay. There’s a nice river you can swim at behind masons cafe too. We didn’t plan our drive home just stopped where we wanted to but each beach is so different from the last despite being so close so I’d recommend checking them out. Do take insect repellant if doing jungle walks and mangroves.

Hi there,
I'm having difficulty finding information online but I was wondering if you'd have availability for 27th evening? Only one night for 3 people (1 male, 2 females). If you could let me know on ssshirleypim hotmail com I'd be most grateful. And if it is available, the best way to book or a number to call?
Thanks in advance!
