Whilst the first 2 days did use Series 300 Landcruisers that were very comfortable, on day 3 they were swapped out for a series 79 dual cab Landcruiser and a 70 series LT Landcruiser with a rear facing 3 person bench seat fitted in the rear. The back seat of the dual cab Toyota 79 is very cramped, being taller i could not travel there for any length of time. The 70 LT series Landcruiser had vinyl seats, no real air conditioning in the rear (other that 2 flimsy electric fans) and three people were seated facing rearwards. Whist legroom was much better in that vehicle the rear facing seats meant on dusty roads the rear only view was dominated by the dust cloud. Entry to the back of that vehicle was also challenging via the rear door for those less agile. The guides fortunately were very diligent in rotating people around seating positions which was somewhat helpful. On day three we were also given a small tote bag and asked to donwsize our luggage despite it being well within that specified in the itineary. The "spare bag" was taken back to Cairns and we ere very relieved to find it waiting at our hotel on return.
The itinerary promised a stay or at least a visit to Cooktown. However the day before we were due to go there we were told that Cooktown had been taken off the itinerary and we would not go there at all. We were devastated to learn this as we were very keen to visit this historic town. Instead we stayed at the tour operator's very average accommodation in Cape trib and had a very very long day to Wolverton Station.
Accommodation however was generally a good standard, within what was likely available in the area. All nights included en suite bathrooms and tea making in room (except the tents at wolverton which were well aware of that). The exception was the Daintree accommodation owned by the tour operators which did have en suites but were otherwise very spartan ! At most locations the host met us and warmly welcomed us (except at cape trib !). Despite the tour owner being nearby us at various times he never bothered to come and say hello !
The itinerary stated "you will be treated to a scenic Cape York helicopter flight over The Tip of Australia" but were were advised when we got there that that was not the case and we would have to pay an additional $100 each if we wanted to fly over the tip !
We were not met at Cairns airport on return and had to find our own way back into town which was not expected.
On the plus side our two guides were very informative, cheerful and helpful, most hosts were very welcoming, accommodating and informative, and the small group were great, which made what could have been a very average experience a positively memorable one.
