Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What an interesting place to visit. We watched a short video about this amazing shearer. Jack Howe's grandson (by marriage) runs the exhibit/shop and was really interesting to chat to. He had so many stories to tell. Worth a visit

This gent was legendary... in October 1892 he shore 321 sheep in seven hours and 40 minutes at Alice Downs station... considering the equipment they had back then ...that's impressive!!! He also set the weekly record, shearing 1,437 sheep in 44 hours and 30 minutes in 1892! It wasn't until 1950 that his record was beaten.

The record was beaten by a man who used machine shears ... where Jackie was using hand shears. There needs to be memorials for men like this... he was also an avid trade unionist and he got involved in the shearers strike.

Without this incredible memorial , I would never have learned this story. If you are going through Blackall... you should take time to stop and learn about Jackie.

I have mentioned this is not too far from their 'tree of knowledge' and that's because it's a big of a dig at Barcaldine... all in fun of course, but worth stopping at for a laugh.

Worth a look at Australian history. Worth a sit under the tree. Sharing a yarn in the shade. Great bakery next door .

Quite a man!
This statue has pride of place in the main street of town.
Take a few minutes and read all about him.

We saw the statue and read the history on the plaque of the World Champion Blade Shearer, Jackie Howe which was interesting. Ventured into the shop inside which was a small room that charged a $4 entry fee – decided not value for money so we didn’t bother going anything further.

This place of interest is easily located and accessed, and has plenty of information displayed. However, whilst it is always nice to learn something of the history about places you are visiting, we found this to be really just another statue.

Hackie Howe - I believe he still holds the world record for the amount of sheep he sheared in one day. Blackall, the town is full of statues, Murals and sculptures.
