Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Heard about the black stump so had to go see
A bit underwhelmed but I’ve ticked it off
It’s at the back of the school
At least the site explained the story

The origin of one of our beloved sayings is very interesting and it was good to see all about its origin.

The original "black stump" was a petrified remnant of the dinosaur ages and was used by surveyors to establish a properly surveyed transit of the township. The one that's there to-day, abutting the State High School, is by a local sculptor, and the history of the Black Stump is explained in a large mural immediately behind it under cover. To the right of the black stump is a sign "Beyond the Black Stump" which is self-explanatory. The site is free and open all the time. That's another one ticked off the Bucket List!

Managed to find the Black Stump behind the school. The plaque read “The Black Stump was used for surveying purposes to correctly align the map of Queensland.”

Trying to keep dry whilst reading the plaque and displays was interesting as they had the sprinklers on so we had to time it when we took our photos and quickly read the history so as not to get wet – all a bit of fun – bit at least we can now tick off seeing the Black Stump.

Worth a quick stop...small but interesting monument to a famous Aussie saying. It's a replica of the original but still has an interesting explanation to the history of "The Stump". (looks a little like a bus stop shelter, so it's easy to miss if you're not looking out for it)

Point of interest worth stopping and having a leg stretch. Origin of a familiar old expression "Beyond the black stump" and just thought it was a just and Australian colloquialism for well into the outback. Stopped off at this site only to discover the significance of the expression and how it came to being an actual survey point. Historic site that has now become an Australian expression. Always something to learn.

If you are driving through Blackall this is just a MUST stop and see. This is a place etched in Australian folk law.
Many do not even know it exists - but it does. So stop , take a few snaps and read the history.
Then you too can say - I HAVE BEEN TO THE BLACK STUMP.

Decided that we couldn’t drive through Blackall without visiting the famous black stump. We nearly drive straight past it as it backs onto the local school.
Stump is now metal as the original stump burnt down, however it’s still worth a stop and a photo, and there’s a good story about the black stump attached.

I never knew this actually exists. It is sort of hidden. It is halfway along the school. The information boards are wonderful.
