This was a a welcome cool site on a hot day. We took a picnic lunch as we knew it would take time to cover all the exhibitions. The setting around the treed water setting was well set out to sit and appreciate. The different buildings detailing the workers in tandem to the development of Australia were great. We enjoyed walking back in time to our childhood memories.
Pleasant staff. Great shop.

A very well presented historical account of the birth of the Australian Labor Party and the Australian Workers Union. The exhibits and old photographs together with the exhibition of how the workers and people used to live and work were extremely interesting. Well worth a visit for any person interested in history.

A very attractive site, buildings arranged around a billabong with shady trees and grass, continuing the "Waltzing Matilda" theme. Interesting history about life in the bush, the wool industry, the importance of rail travel, the beginnings of the labor movement and unionism.
I was a tad disappointed in the history of working women exhibition.

We visited the AWHC expecting a strong focus on the Labor party, but we were pleasantly surprised that it didn’t. We were extremely impressed with the broad range of Queensland displays it covered eg Shearers strike, Queensland Rail, Education, Health, Women to name just a selection. Allow upto half a day to truly experience the centre. The grounds were well set out and are set ip for a picnic if you so desire. We felt this is one of the best displays on Queensland we’ve seen, highly recommended

Thank you for the 5-star review! We value your feedback and can't wait to see you again. As you noted, our key focus is celebrating the history of our Australian Workers, the hardships they faced to create the benefits that we enjoy today.

Most of the displays were good. The bicentennial tent is empty, hopefully there are plans for the future. But then we got to the Women at Work section. It was derogatory, depressing and uninformed. Written by old men and the wives of those, whose greatest ambition is to win first prize at the CWA bake sale. I hope the young women who see this discover there is more to life than being a wife, a mother and an accessory for a man. Even my husband couldn’t believe how bad it was.
Nicely set out grounds and a great slice of history. Needs a little updating though.

Thank you for your review Merinda. For clarification only, as a significantly large attraction, we do our best to ensure our displays and exhibitions are kept up to date and utilised to their full potential. We are sorry that you didn't receive our intended message of our Working Women display, where we are celebrating the lives of the working women of Australia. We hope to see you again.

Why can’t they have these museums in major cities. Excellent in all respects and tells the complete story of the shearer’s strike and the start of the Labor movement in Australia. Also digs into many facets of Australian history - you need two hours to do yourself and family/ friends justice. It’s worth the drive.

This museum was a great surprise! Well laid out with heaps of informative displays. We particular loved the old school building and found our names on the 1992 state electoral rolls.

The old train stations and post offices were very well done.

Highly entertaining and thoroughly thought provoking, it is a gem with at least a couple of hours required to see it all.

Put this one on your definites of things to see in Barcaldine. It’s great value at only $19 pp

Excellent informative history of workers of all different Australian industry. Not to be missed and make sure you allow at least 2 hours to review each building and the exhibits in them. I thought it would be mainly about the shearer’s strike and how it eventually led to formation of the ALP. Much better than I expected.

Entry via the new foyer and shop. The cafe is currently closed so get your coffee from Ridgee Didge cafe before you go through. Staff on site were very helpful, they had plenty of insight and information on the displays.
The large ten is having a refurb at present, so just a tad disappointing to not to see it in full swing.

All of the other displays and activities are housed in various ex government buildings and have a lot of information and photographs. The central billabong is ideal to stop at and feed the fake ducks, or feed yourself. All in all a pleasant way to spend the day.
