Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The park is close to The Station Cafe and teh Chinese Temple, so I recommend visiting all three when you're there. I didn't see any platypus, but there was plenty of birdlife and it was a nice walk around the parklands. There are BBQ facilities and a playground as well for the kiddies.

A small quiet very pretty parkland with a larger than expected cafe on site. We stopped for a small lunch and were surprised at the wide variety on the menu. Reasonable prices. Good amount of car parking available and bicycle pathways.

Absolutely awesome place! They looked after us so well and the food was amazing and very well priced, they could easily charge a lot more for food that good! Unfortunately didn’t manage to see any platypus but we had a great time none the less and would definitely go back!

Just south of Atherton, this nice little spot has plenty of off-street parking, and a little walk down to the waters where lots of duck await. You need to look into the bank edges for the Platypus

Don’t get this place confused with the ‘Australian Platypus Park’ at Tarzali Lakes. We went looking for the platypus sanctuary and ended up at this one on Herberton Rd via google and trip advisor. This one has a cute old train cafe... but no platypuses (lady in the cafe said they used to be there, but ran away). If you want to see guaranteed platypus sightings, head to the sanctuary on Malanda Millaa Millaa Rd. The one with the Smokehouse cafe. We stumbled on the right one by driving past it on the way to Millaa Millaa. Saw 3-4 adorable little platypuses keeping very busy in the lake. You need to be patient and they will turn up after about 10 mins if you don’t see them straight away. Definitely worth a visit. Our first time seeing wild platypus and it was amazing.

We had always heard that the best time of day to view platypus was early morning or evening, but our schedule meant that we arrived at the Smokehouse Cafe around 11am. We decided to have a snack from the cafe before hunting platypus, but we actually spotted our first one as we were enjoying a very good coffee at a table overlooking a pond.

When we walked down to the main viewing area (easy walk over sloping lawns through garden area), we saw another four platypus. Watching for the tell-tale air bubbles was tantalising, and we spent about 40 minutes as they moved across the ponds, sometimes closer to us as they moved through the water-lilies and sometimes further away.

I've always hoped to see a platypus, but former attempts have all failed, so it was a fantastic experience!

Tours depart every 30 minutes and are lead by a guide. It’s about a 5 minute walk down to the spring. The platypus only come up for air for about 10 seconds so you have to be quick taking pictures or video. You can stay as long as you’d like and you pay when you get back to the reception area. We ate lunch there at The Smokehouse and it was good. The food was made onsite

A great little spot to take the children. Its not overly big. There is a little walking track and you get get a coffee and something to eat at the old railway station cafe. The kids loved to feed the ducks, watch the turtles and fish and if you are lucky you might even see a platypus. Great picnic spot with a BBQ and a small playground for the kids

Just on the edge of Atherton this little park has a short walk through a pocket of rainforest, around the creek. Keep a watch for the Stone Curlew - they have a very unusual call. Be sure to take some healthy food and feed the friendly ducks. Just across the carpark is the Atherton Train Station cafe, great food.

You only pay if you indeed could see some platypus. We did and we paid some $ 17 per person.
The guide took us a short walk to the pond where we didn't see anything for the first about 10 minutes. Suddenly we could see some platypus swimming across the pond and it was great to photo them with telephoto lenses.
Nice stop in beautiful scenery
