Visited on a damp grey Sunday but really enjoyed the experience. Lovely helpful young lady in the visitors centre and an informative experience. Really still has a great feel to it when you are in the ruins and wonderful views even in the drizzle! Steep climb up but loads of seats along the way Well worth a look

The climb to Peveril Castle is quite steep with a few high steps which maybe problematic to people who have mobility issues. The entrance to the Castle itself has a spiral staircase and once inside you can see everything on the lower level from the first level but if you wish to access the lower level there is a tight... It was good to climb to the castle and see the view from there. The tower and the walls are beautiful and it give a good feeling to watch the landscape from there.

We started the day planning to go for a walk. But then we couldnt find the place we were looking for! We went into Castleton for lunch - but it wasnt quite 12 - so we ended up wandering to Perevil Castle. It was a fun steepish climb for us and the kids up the hill. Then we had a... More

Peveril Castle is an imposing structure that lurks over the charming little town of Castleton. Being a very rainy day when we arrived we were unable to do the walk to the castle but enjoyed looking at it from various vantage points in the village.

Peveril Castle is an English Heritage site in Castleton, the Peak District. It is located at the top of a hill and accessed via a fairly steep footpath. Dogs (on leads) are very welcome. The castle is a ruin - you can see the remains of walls and the keep, with informative signage throughout. This is a great little piece... More

Stunning views and location make this well worth the climb. Good history lesson for the kids courtesy of English Heritage info boards which are very accessible. I think two years ago you were allowed inside the keep but no longer. Really interesting hour spent here.

There is a charge to walk up to the castle! I didn't necessarily want to see the castle or go inside, but the hill itself has been closed off - you have to pay. I don't think this is in the spirit of the Peak District national park. There should be a charge for the castle but not the walk... More
