Visited the Blue John Cavern today. It's located just outside Castleton in Derbyshire. I think it's the biggest Cavern complex in the Peak District where they still mine the semi-precious stone Blue John. You have to be reasonably fit to attempt this journey, as you descend more than 400 feet below ground and will have gone up or down 490... More

Can be slippy mind your head. Outstanding knowledge of tour leader. 245 steps down and the same back!!!😊 but worth it. Not for faint hearted. Toilets available hot drinks... More

We attended the Blue John Cavern as a young family with my parents, 4 adults, 1 4 month old and 2 large dogs. My parents bought the tickets and did mention the lady in the gift shop was a little abrupt when they asked questions and the cafe had no where to sit, with coffee being served in disposable cups.... It was a lovely drive to the cavern, lovely surroundings and views. The caves were really interesting and the guide was good although the steps on the way back up were strenuous!

Great trip underground. Excellent tour as you trek 300 feet down to vast cavern. Can be a bit slippy under foot but well worth the money.

This is a really fascinating cavern, it's not for the faint hearted or those who are infirm but if you can manage it you will be thrilled. We took our two dogs and a baby. Baby had to be carried in a sling as there are lots of steps but it was well worth it. We had a guide who... More

I visited this attraction on Tuesday 28 February 2017 on the spur of the moment whilst in the area. There is a large sign on the approach road to the cavern advised that the cavern was open every day, all year round, with the exception of Christmas day. When I arrived at the attraction there was a sign on the... More
