Left from Windermere for a good drive to wastwater via the hardknott and Wrynose pass. Definitely a tough drive and not recommended for first timers or bad weather. Wastwater is a great lake, good views and can hike /kayak around. PS lack of toilets or...More

This is such a beautiful and remote area. It gives access to some of the best mountains in Great Britain. We are so lucky to in this country to have such outstanding scenery.

What a breath taking sight experience- views out of this world. It’s a must to go. Roads are a bit narrow in places and watch out for the sheep.

Always drive down here, even if just for a few minutes. Its beautiful whatever the weather, dark and moody in bleak weather and shining in bright sunshine. Dress for any weather because it changes very quickly, Be considerate of other drivers and walkers, everyone has...More

Wow! The lake was recommended to us by friends, being their favourite place in the Lake District. I can see why. It is well worth the drive. A few single track roads but most people are quite patient and it's easy to pass where you...More

It always feels like a journey to the end of the world. The approach from the west end of the lake meanders through woodland, hiding the treat in store. When the lake comes into view it is framed by scree slopes to one side, fells...More

Wastwater is remote, and the roads approaching narrow an. Slow, but the effort of getting there is well worth it, for wast water is perhaps one of the most beautiful vistas in the country. In any weather it is striking, and well worth a visit...More

This is a beautiful lake at the bottom of the Scafells. I was there in a fairly overcast day but the scenery was still stunning!

We stayed in Nether Wasdale at the south end of the lake. There are 2 pubs with rooms. The youth hostel on the water's edge us also an option.
