I am a very keen birdwatcher and love this place especially in early spring. It is well worth the 30 mile journey to get here. I went on May 6th and saw a male ring ouzel , cuckoo, garden warbler, whitethroat, bullfinch, green woodpecker, willow warbler , blackcap , common terns, swifts , house martins and heard a nightingale. The reserve... Another visit too this fantastic little gem, all the signposts are well marked up, seems to have had a facelift round the area , lots of good firm marked up paths, lots of bird hides and new platforms to admire the wildlife. Some nice open areas we could let our puppy if the lead for a runaround overall a fantastic... More

Big place, beautiful scenery and good place to chill. Be careful of the muddy mound as it can become slippery due to weather. Everyone should come here and experience the nature and trees, me and my friend met early and stayed out there a while was great fun. I defiantly recommend this nature reserve to everyone of all ages.

Visited a few weekends ago. Nice mix of terrain - open paths, shaded woods, riverside. Plenty of hides to stop in. Variety of birds (heard but didn't see a nightingale). Didn't get to go in the visitor centre due to being repaired from overnight break in! Will go back - would be a nice winter walk to see the contrast!

Feeling the urge and need for a long walk, my daughter and I set off for a relaxing stroll around the reserve. Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful nature and lovely long trails to follow. We stopped halfway round for a needed sit down and enjoyed our packed lunch whilst listening to the beautiful sounds of the many birds. Time passed so quickly,... More

A very pleasant area to walk around, with Lakes and riverside areas. Part of the area is still a working pit, but can still be walked around. Small visitor centre that does a nice cuppa at a very reasonable price.
