The scale, grandeur and beauty of Stowe has inspired writers, philosophers, artists, politicians and members of the public from the 18th century to the present day. Since the National Trust acquired the gardens in the late 1980s, an ambitious programme of restoration has ensured that over 40 temples and monuments remain, gracing an inspiring backdrop of lakes and valleys with an endless variety of walks and trails, a delightful visit, any time of year.

As it was such a beautiful day, we decided to take the dog and have a walk around the grounds at Stowe. The 250+ acres of grounds designed by the apprentice to William Kent, a certain 'Capability Brown', it is a wonderful walk through the Grecian Valley, past follies & statues, it is a lovely way to spend a Sunday... The gardens were not as good as expected after reading about them. Admission price was too high and had to pay parking on top of the admission. To visit the House as well there was another admission price which was expensive as well. Been to far better gardens which cost a lot less admission fees.

Stowe is a landscape garden – think lawns, lakes, trees, follies and statues rather than neatly tended flower beds. Pick up a map at the entrance to help you navigate your route. There are three suggested trails around one mile in length – the Paths of Vice, Virtue and Liberty, or just wander where you like. The walks take you... More

We called in at Stowe gardens for a break on our journey from the Cotswolds to East Anglia. It was just as beautiful as I had remembered from a previous visit some years ago, although the entrance had been re- sited and the facilities ( cafe, shop etc ) had been enlarged and improved. The walks are wonderful with beautiful... More

The gardens are good but the entrance price, just to walk round them, is very expensive and then on top of that you have to pay to park your car quite a way from the walk. We went as a family with 2 children and wanted to get them a gift as a keepsake but left without buying anything as... More

Superb huge grounds to explore. Move away from the path round the lake and you will have the place virtually to yourself. Well maintained and cared for. Cafe is nice (although fairly limited range) and shop has a decent selection of gifts and souvenirs.

Not a NT place we had visited before so as we were in the area we popped in. The grounds and lakes are extensive and nice for a walk. There are some architectural structures to view which are nice. The grounds are tidy but there are no gardens as such to view, it's a natural site and the gardeners have... More

Called in at Stowe to stretch our legs while on a journey south. It's a really beautiful place to visit. Beautifully landscaped gardens and a nice lake to walk around. A good gift shop and a restaurant serving nice food.
