Costa Maya is one of Mexico's most popular cruise ports and emerging travel destinations located just hours from Cancun on Mexico's southern Yucatan Peninsula. The modern port is able to accommodate three ships at once, with the capability to dock Oasis and Epic sized ships, and entertain visitors at a destination that showcases the ancient and colonial heritage of the Mexican Caribbean with all of today's modern conveniences. Costa Maya is comprised of three grand pavilions, artisan and luxury shopping areas, a beach club, saltwater pools, fine restaurants and bars, and all the resources necessary to explore the surrounding jungle and the world's second largest coral reefs.

The gateway to the amazing beaches of the Yucatan peninsula. We had read about Mahahual and decided to head there on our own, rather than a tour. Five dollar taxi ride.

They beach has tons of cabanas, umbrellas, chairs and friendly people. They will try to sell you stuff but just say no thanks and they move along. The water was so clear and beautiful, I said I could live there forever.

I had all facilities there! Shopping, pool, bar, restaurants, etc. And the best people are working there. Please, be welcome always!

Bucket of beers - $40 Went back to ship where we had drink package and "free" food. Been here twice and tried two different excursions - not impressed with this port at all - would not go on cruise with this port again.

Although this is obviously manufactured, we thoroughly enjoyed taking in the sights of locals dressed up, playing music and doing stunts, dipping in the pool, getting a delicious strawberry pina colada and seeing the parrots, flamingos and dolphins! Be sure to take a trip from...More

Go here and shop for what you want! Don't be afraid to say no thank you, walk away for lower prices! If you feel the need that is!

Costa Maya was absolutely the only cruise stop that I will never consider going to again. It is a tiny town of trash, poverty and abandoned dreams. Empty beginnings of hotels, wide streets built for a city that never flourished - these streets are now...More

We visited on the carnival cruise. The port was small and it wasn't as commercialized as most ports. If you drive out of the port you can tell it's a poor area but the beaches are beautiful and the locals are very nice.

The port is clean and family-friendly. There is a wonderful salt water pool with views of the ocean and swim-up bars. BUT, prepare to spend a LOT of money if you plan on buying alcohol here. The drinks are weak and they are expensive. We...More

Did you go swimming with the Dolphins through the Dolphin Discovery or somewhere else? We are looking to do this in July so we are trying to find the best place. Thanks,

Are all the beach area at Mahahaul charge a fee? Will it cost more to go to the city and find a resort for a beach break than purchasing online ahead of time?

Hello Sonny, we have excurtions that includes the beach area with some activities for you but you can grab any transportation and just get to beach. The access is free but there are charges for the excurtions
