Hi, previous answer is excellent and addresses everything. We did not rent a condo but stayed at the Xio Yal Ku Hotel which used the Tao wellness center and a private beach club which is not exclusive to the Tao. It is used by other other hotels. This beach though is too rocky, not a good for swimming especially for kids. Tao seems to me very new, clean, efficiently run. I believe good for families (we are a couple with no children). Keep in mind though that at our hotel you can also have little apartments with kitchen. The manager there, Lorena, is fantastic and was very helpful with everything, car rental, directions, restaurants, etc, etc. We rented a car with Europcar for $300 a week and we could explore several beaches: Akumal Playa, Xocel, Hpu Ha and few others I do not remember the name of. Using collectivos is easy. They run very frequently. But you are also in the hand of a Mexican driver... and it does not give you all the freedom especially late in the afternoon. With the car we could go everywhere including restaurants at night at the time we wanted. With a child I would recommend the car :) All beaches have parking space. At times free, at times for a small charge. Roads are awful though, full of potholes. You will have to drive slow and accept others passing you left and right sides (!) at much faster speed. They do not care about their car i guess.. Also have very clear directions to know which exit to take for each place you are going to. You will learn fast, do not worry. I hope this was useful. I just returned and have lot to do! Have a marvelous vacation.
