Omg what do I even say???? The turtles are absolutely beautiful and amazing. They’re not afraid of people at all. I could stay out in the water all day and watch them. Checked off one of my bucket list items by seeing and swimming with...More

The month of September the government decided to not allow you to swim Beyond about 50 yards offshore they were protecting the turtles at this time so all of the grassy area where the turtles usually are and feed was under surveillance and you were...More

We visited the beach on two separate occasions during a recent holiday at the Sensimar Seaside Suites (we came last year on a multi-venue excursion, that provided an hour long independant swim/ snorkel opportunity - which was both sucessful and wonderful). This time we travelled...More

Visiting this bay was part of an excursion booked through our hotel, Bahia Principe Tulum. We snorkeled with a guide, were required to wear life vests, and use of flippers was prohibited. Water entry is gradual, no dropoffs; and one must snorkel along a path...More

A beautiful beach that has astounding scenery. Amazing to snorkel around the turtles and there are people to hand to advice and support. It’s not overly touristy and is a lovely haven

Everyone at Akumal was extremely respectful of the turtles home! It was a breath of fresh air from most guided wildlife encounters. The turtles were beautiful and even if you only see one or two, it's life changing!

Saw turtles every day, got some nice photos but unable to load. Water mostly clear but if not go a bit further out.

We booked a trip with Thomas Cook, the sea was so rough that my brother was being sick the whole time (he's never been seasick before). The sea was so murky that we couldn't see a thing, our guide swam off and said they'd seen...More

Myself and my partner got a taxi from playa here and were immediately bombarded by tourist guides trying to sell us tours. They try to to convince you that you are not allowed to swim without a guide but this is not true. Continue walking...More

I went in May so I think the best advice I can give you is to contact the Akumal Dive Shop. They are located right at the location where you'll be snorkeling. And I believe they will be able to answer your concerns.

I didn't pay for a guide. The place is not so big and it's safe to go without a guide
