Very nice place with many animals. The guide Kari gave us a lot of interesting information. We met aras, a small boa a a monkey. The meet with the monkey was so cute! It seems that the animals are threat very good here. Important: bring repellent!!

Akumal Monkey sanctuary and cenote review
The tour was very informative, interesting, and well put together. Our guide Marcos was a delight and it was clear he really cared about his work. The activities that involved holding the animals were very well done and everyone can tell the sanctuary tries to do everything they can to help the animals and it was well worth our time and money. The cenote was also amazing and such a relief from the sun. I highly recommend getting the package with it because of the beautiful underground rock structures and picturesque view.

    This was a Fun experience.
This was a fun experience while on vacation. The tour did take a little longer than I thought with the animal tour. The ATV experience was fun and did take a while to get back to the Cenote. This was the best part. The Cenote was very good though and was an experience. It did seem that it was rushed through and didnt get to swim as long as I would like. The cold water of the Cenote was refreshing though. I would recommend this experience as it was fun to do. Just wish they went a little faster on animal tour and they had little more fun with everything. Seemed to be very strict.

    Magical Monkey Adventure
Marcos was a wonderful guide during our time at Akumal Monkey Sanctuary. We saw many animals and were educated on each animal as well as the wonderful rehab work being done at this facility. I would highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting the Tulum or Playa del Carmen areas. We had pickup at our hotel. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

    Great visit to monkey sanctuary
An informative and enjoyable two hours in the middle of the jungle. The guide was very knowledgeable and told some interesting and humerus anecdotes. The cost may appear to be high, but these people are doing a great service to us by caring for the animals who's lives we humans have wrecked in the first place. Please support them by visiting the sanctuary. One word of advice, don't wear close fitting garments and think the mosquitoes can't get through. They can as my wife found out to her cost, at least 50 bites through cropped pants. But none on uncovered skin treated with OFF mosquito repellant

    Great if you love animals
So we busted the monkey sanctuary while holidaying in Mexico. So many different animals not just monkeys , but monkeys of all kinds , goats pigs otters ostrich zebra and many more . Some have been rescued after getting electrocuted and losing a limb . Others have been taking In from hotels and other place . One word of advice wear long sleeve tops and trouser otherwise you will get Bitten alive by the mosquitoes. Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable and it was a great morning out.

Great place and great team to rescue animals and to save our planet
very good experience. Angel was a very knowledgeable and environment sensitive tour guide. He gave insights and unfortunately many sad stories of the various animals’ past life. Great to see these people working hard and motivated to rescue these creatures and sensitize visitors to be critical of animal shows, displays or attractions at the high cost of the animal's well beeing or even their life. Big thank you for the great work of the team there!

This is really a cool place. You can tell how much the people care about the animals here. I loved meeting all the animal ambassadors, holding and interacting with a Capuchin monkey was my favorite. We went in June and the mosquitos were really bad, that is the only negative thing. Make sure you wear insect repellant if visiting in the summer and you can't spray near the animals. I would definitely recommend this place. It was a blast.

A completely different experience - this is not a zoo or a wild animal show, it's a facility that is providing a life for wild animals that have had to suffer the folly of people's whims. Case in point: there's a caracal resident there, which is native to Africa. It can't possibly be returned due to human exposure, lack of wild animal skills, and the potential for exposing african animals to pathogens.

That said, we had a great time. Our guide, Kary, was very knowledgeable about the animals, their history, and their lives. We did the shorter tour, so we dipped down into the cenote for a brief wild bat encounter which was just great.

The facility provides a photographer that accompanies each tours and the quality of the photos were simply excellent. Normally we don't buy tour photos, but he really captured some neat moments that we'll be showing others.

The monkey experience with the capuchins is simply unprecedented. The group was fully prepared by the guide & keepers so it was just an amazing experience. The capuchines seemed to regard the guests as interesting things to climb on while getting mango snacks and I doubt most people have ever experienced having a monkey hat!

Educational, exciting, well presented.. really a terrific experience.

Notes: you most definitely need mosquito repellent AND it must be safe for the animals. I recommend doing what we did, just buy it in the gift shop.
I don't think I would take children under, say, age 15. These animals are not there to amuse you and are not toys, they're living their best lives with these caretakers.

We enjoyed our tour of the monkey sanctuary-Adolfo was so knowledgeable, his English was very good and his respect and awe for the animals in their care was inspiring. It s a well run sanctuary and it is obvious that the welfare of their animals is their first priority. Our favorite part of the tour was our encounter with Sara the capuchin (I think?). Their photographer got some AMAZING photos that are our favorite keepsakes of our entire trip. We appreciate that the photo packages were not exorbitantly priced as they were at other attractions in the area. Highly recommend!

We come here for a small little trip and a few hours out of the hotel. Animals well cared for and staff very passionate about the animals our guide Rodolfo was amazing and very passionate about the animals. Overall the experience was very pleasant and the 3 animal encounters you have are well organised and the animals rotated over the day! No animals are forced to participate they swapped our monkey when it was not feeling up to it.
We enjoyed the the trip and look forward to seeing the great work the sanctuary does over the next few years
Thank you
Mathew and Kayleigh ☺️

The guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. The photographer does a great job and I'd recommend it to friends visiting the area in the future. Please don't be late. It impacts the flow and the poor guide has to repeat themselves over and over again.

My family and I had a great time at the monkey sanctuary, especially my 11 year old. We started off the tour by checking out some of the farm animals. The tour guide then led us to various sanctuaries, where they rescue animals that were pets or part of a circus. They are helping these animals recover and go back to the wild eventually. We then stopped at a monkey's house, where he sat on our heads and ate some seeds. It was a cool experience. We also got to hold a snake and macaw birds. It was a hot day, but there are many trees so it helped. At the end, they gave us watermelon juice, which was really refreshing. Our group in the tour was about 20 people. If you have a smaller group, it would be better.

It is very apparent how much the staff cares about the environment and the animals in the area. We did the full experience, ATV ride to the Cenote and then the full Monkey Sanctuary tour complete with the up close and personal meeting of a monkey. My wife and boys enjoyed the ATV ride the most but my favorite was the dip in the nice, cool cenote. It is a very dusty ride to the cenote so be sure to bring a mask (bandana, neck scarf or n95 mask if you prefer).
