First visit to the Tonala market and will definitely be back. The market we were told opens at 3 a.m. in the morning. It is held on Thursday and Sunday. There is everything you can think of for sale and at great prices. Tons of food vendors. Wish we had a way to get more items home.

We visited the Tonala Craft Market with a group. This is a very busy, crowded market, so set a place and time for everyone to meet in case you get separated. On market day, additional stalls are set up that sell everything under the sun. If you are looking for for some beautiful craft arts, you will find them more... More

The market goes on for at least ten blocks, fills the side streets and across the Boulevard from the stores. It can easily take the whole day to go through it. I would not say it is high quality shopping. There are some wonderful unique items- cocktail stirrers, some fabric, glass work, however, look while reasonably priced the pottery I... More

On Thursdays and Sundays Tonala turns into a market. There is no specific area or address. It's everywhere! Lots of fun stuff. It's not easy to compare the prices in Tonala and other places when you visit Mexico just for a week. Some things are cheaper than in Tlaquepaque but in Tonala you get a bigger chance to get a... What an incredible experience! Sundays are the best, but arrive early to find good parking spots. Prices are almost a third to 1/2 of what you would experience in Tlaquepaque. Food is fabulous and there is something for everyone. Many merchants align the streets with hand made goods, glass, clay plates, cookware, Catrinas, Day of the dead figurines, serapes, Mexican... Make sure to go out from the "tented table vendors" to the shops in the surrounding blocks. The shops that are out from the market are filled with specialty items. We found a wonderful glass shop, and ordered a custom made chandelier from the artisan. Can't wait to get it!

The tianguis (the indigenous term for open air market) is huge. Probably the biggest I have seen to date in Mexico. It takes place Thursdays and Saturdays. Though there is a relatively low percentage of gringos and most of the clients are local there are opportunities to buy various souvenirs. However the real reason to go is to experience the... More

We spent the whole day shopping. The prices and people were great. Quality and variety of items is beyond belief. I would say this business district is better for the middle class.

We are a Family Of four with young kids. Came from Guadalajara which by the way we were not to impressed. Stayed in Hotel Tonala which I highly recommend. The people are great. So much to see!! Prices are reasonable and you can always bargain. If you valuable the people, true artisan work and love authentic food this is the... More
