Amazing scenery! Some of North America's early formation of Newfoundland (millions of years ago). A great view of fjords, mountains and different terrain and vegetation.

The Viking Trail is Rt 430 that hugs the west coast. It is a beautiful drive with very little reminders of civilization.

There is so much to explore, and knowing that the ancient Maritime Archaic people, and the Vikings , preceded the Europeans in discovery of our land is jaw dropping......they had to be SO resilient, and brave to live in this landscape.

Up the western side of Newfoundland...as the name suggestions...you are following along the same "path" as the Vikings took in days of old. Great views and lots to see including whales, caribou, and moose!

Escape the crowds of St. John's and Gros Morne and go to the Northern Peninsula. Saw caribou at Port aux Choix, moose at L'anse Aux Meadows and icebergs in St. Anthony Bight.

Did the trip in both directions north and south. North in the fog and rain, south in the sun. Very nice views, superb coastal scenery and we saw whales off the coast.

Had the best time exploring all the sites along the way. Gorgeous views and great well maintained highway. Watch out for moose and cariboo, so majestic.

I have driven the trail four times. The first time we drove we remarked how it reminded us of Scotland. As with all drives in Newfoundland. Watch your gas gauge.

This was an easy road to follow because of the signs. I would have given it a 5 if the road did not have so many potholes (which seems to be common in NL). Every business capitalized on "viking". very scenic-do watch for moose
