History You Can Drive On

The last of the 1940s wood trestle bridges on a section of the original Alaska Highway that you can drive across. Well worth the short detour.

Having grown up very close to this bridge I have to say that I love this whole area very much! The campground almost underneath the bridge is a nice quiet spot away from the hustle bustle of the Alaska Highway. The bridge itself is gorgeous and the swimming in the Kiskatinaw is a local pastime. This is a great spot... More

Driving through Dawson Creek, this is a great stop a few minutes off the Alaska Highway. Enjoy a picnic or stay at this beautiful spot to swim for the day or camp for the night on the river bank. Very popular, so arrive early to set up your camp!

Interesting curved bridge. There is a campground near, and a few places to hike. Nice place to see and explore.

Built in 1942/43 it is a wonderful old bridge with an interesting curve built in. I have never seen another like it. Pretty cool!

Had a nice picnic there. We still talk about it , plan on seeing it again this spring. I admire the engineering that it took to build this.

A relaxing and enjoyable visit. It is interesting seeing the curved bridge, it is a nice area for hiking and picnicking. I enjoy imagining all the thought and engineering that went into creating this bridge...how many vehicles have travelled on it. A lot of photos have been taken of this valuable asset and it is interesting to see if you... More

This is an interesting side trip from the new main highway. Has a curved wooden bridge from the original Alaska highway route. Short detour from the main highway but is a loop so you lose no distance. Nice campground on the river below the bridge as well.

We made an effort to see this curved bridge after stopping in Dawson Creek on our two week Canadian Rockies road trip. While I'd be hard pressed to tell you more about the bridge than Wikipedia, I can say that the bridge, the river and gorge made for a beautiful backdrop for our picnic lunch that day. Well worth the... More
