We visited the North Dakota State Capitol building early on a Thursday morning. We arrived at 7:30 AM. Almost no one else was in the capital visiting, since the tours did not begin until 9 AM. Then on the hour. However, we had access to...More

Although you can do a self guided tour we would highly recommend taking the free guided tour . Our guide, Cindy, was very knowledgeable , plus you have access to places such as the Supreme Court which you won't be able to see on your...More

This Capitol is unusual because it is a high rise with no cupola. The original building burned in 1930. This building was erected in 1934 as is Art Deco in style. It has also been expanded in later years. Our guide was very informative about...More

The outside of the building is boringly modern, but the inside is worth a quick tour. The 1st floor has an interesting Art Deco theme and the top 12th floor offers view of the Capitol campus and surrounding countryside. Be sure to ride the express...More

Impressive building. Tour guide was well informed and gave a very good tour. Tours are free, and they explain not only the history of the building as well as an explanation of how the legislature works.

Very unique architecture for a capitol building. Make sure and go to the top floor for the view, that's the best part.

We did not go inside, but we did want to take a peek at the exterior of one of the few non-dome state capital buildings.

Neat State house with a tower. There's a very cool, free museum here that easily makes up for the underwhelming State house. Area wasn't busy. Apparently there's not a lot of traffic through there.

Located close to the Heritage Center & State Museum, the state capitol building is interesting primarily because its design is so different from all other state capitol buildings (no rotunda, no dome). The grounds are well-maintained, with "North Dakota" written in flowers in front.
