Worth Seeing

The building inside and out is worth seeing , if you enjoy seeing state capitols. Plenty of free parking. Pleased to see that Bobby Vee was included as a VIP citizen.

Interesting. Liked that one could go all the way to the top. Best picture was all the snow angels. Had ice cream at their cafeteria. Nice muesum next door.

Stopped in to explore the grounds and State Capitol. The flowers in the front spell our "North Dakota" and make a nice photo. The grounds are nice to roam around and take photos and the people we encountered were very friendly, smiling and pleasant. We looked for a gift shop in the Capitol building but it is located in a... Like most people we were looking for a dome and found this very imposing tower instead. We located the tour desk and joined one that had just started. This is one of four tower type capital buildings in the country. The art deco architecture is imposing and the view from the top floor is great. Learning something about how North... More

We drove by the Capital and Governor's mansion both day and night. Very impressive architecture and stately.

We were surprised by the office tower style capitol building without the usual central dome architecture. Expansive grounds around the capitol building allowing for some impressive pictures and picnic places. Easy parking. The capitol is in the northern prairies and takes a long drive to get there, but worthwhile to see this part of the country and the homelands of... More

Well, there isn't much to say about the North Dakota State Capitol building. It is a lovely work of Art Deco but there is little else. The highest floor serves as the "observation deck". As a New Yorker it's hard to get excited about an 18story building. But as there is little to do in this burg, I would recommend... More

This state Capital on the outside is rather unassuming 1940's appearing building and not that lovely to look at. In all fairness we did not go inside and it could possibly be greatly decorated on the inside.

We had a lovely tour guide and learned a lot about ND and the Capitol Building. the tour was free, a good length (about 45 minutes) and appropriately paced. The building has lots of beautiful arts and crafts features. Our favorite stop was the "monkey room" - you'll have to take the tour to find out more.

If you happen to be in Bismarck stop by the capitol building for an interesting free tour, and see the surprisingly large and modern (and also free) state museum next door. The Capitol Building isn't the prettiest or most impressive state house from outside, but the inside features some very cool Art Deco architecture that will surprise you. Our tour... More
