I had so looked forward to visiting this beautiful plantation! I am glad to hear that it is being restored, and I hope that in the future it will once again welcome visitors to some of the beautiful gardens. My rating is only due to its private status.

It was sad to see it closed when I went back for a third time to take my family! From alligators on the bank to the elevated plank walk across the watery swamp, it was truly a spectacular place... Once open to the public, this grounds are now under new ownership and closed! If you travel toward Fort Anderson you may see the gates, and the alligators that reside in the ponds along the way.

A brief touch local history. Doesn't take long but worth the tour if avaiable. Beautiful area with great views.

This plantation has sadly been closed to the public recently. Repurchased by one of the descendants of the original family, who plans to turn it into a working rice plantation again. It will then be reopened to school groups, etc. I have been there a few times, once lucky enough to walk the grounds during peak azalea week. It is... More

Lovely Plantation which I remember as a child visiting as well. Was a historic stop for high schools as well. Love the gardens and the people and how they portray the times.

Orton was founded by one of the original settlers of Brunswick County. A direct descendant of the family recently purchased the property and is restoring it to the rice plantation it once was. Unfortunately, he has closed the grounds to the public. It is to his credit that he has cleared over 5,000 acres of land to restore the long-leaf... More
